Why do people want workers doing paid tasks to google their sites?

I noticed recently on one of those site where people do paid tasks, that the "employer" are paying people to simply google certain keywords and find their site, and then click on them. Then wait around for a minute, then click on another page.

Is that supposed to help with SEO? Or is this person just trying to fool someones website statistics? (or a client he sold SEO services to?)

Many people are now speculating that this helps with seo. The theory is that, if Google notices people searching for your site specifically and then clicking on it, this must mean your site is of interest to many people.

Hmm... Interesting, I never knew that. I guess that would make a lot of sense in regards to them finding keywords for their auto-populate feature on google, which would help with getting people to notice your own keywords. With you saying "speculating" makes it sound like a rumor :p Makes me wonder if there's any truth to it.

You can use Mturks for this task. Lets Google know that the site is relevant to the search. The more relevant the more points you get with Google.

make tests. stop building backlinks and other stuff. I've seen the same tasks on mturk 8 years ago. it was $0.01 per task/search i think

Because people are stupid enough to think that hiring that $3 per hour guy to click on a google link will earn them traffic. Stupid. They are trying to emulate the millions of users it takes to nudge a site from collected data. Little do they know that there aren't enough proxies and VPNs to pull this off. You can hire 1000 guys, but they will land on many of the same VPNs that others are using, so DUH it's the same IP.

You really have to fail at all things life to be an SEO and IM.

In small amount of clicks, this method may not work. It is a new thing out there. We are not even sure if it is in the algorithm.

Google tracks clicks. We know that. You cannot emulate 1million individual user clicks. The concept is sound, but stupid at the level these idiots are doing it.

Not trying to fool web statistics but trying to make Google believe that the clicked website is more compelling than others.

Maybe they're doing it to reduce their bounce rate. That's the only thing that makes sense to me although I think it's crazy.

On microworkers employers are paying up to $0.30 per search task.

I am making well over $100 a week just by performing searches for employers

They're probably trying to boost their Alexa rating or fabricate traffic towards a site they are trying to sell. We all love those high numbers, yum yum ^_^

I was talking about microworkers too. I haven't seen many telling you to click the ads. But I've even seen tasks that pay over a dollar for doing google searches.

I think your attitude sucks, and is holding you back from success. Check yourself before you wreck yourself!

I dont see why it wouldnt help, these are real people looking for your website through google and browsing your site. Its better than using bot traffic and spamming your link all over the internet.

this is really not new, and has been happening for a long time.

Google will push you down if you have a high bounce rate, and will boost you up if you have a low bounce rate.

Why people are paying for it is beyond me... there used to be quite a few traffic exchanges that would do something similar to that.

The problem with that theory is A) how many people we talking about? 10? 100? OK, let's say 100. So, 100 people do a search for every one of your keywords and click only your site. So, guy A with the same IP does a search and clicks on your site only. Guy B does the same. So all 100 people have the same pattern.

    Stupid.
