Why do people care about ranking on anything past page 1?

With such a steep drop off in click through traffic past the first page, first 10 results, why does anyone care to get on the second page, let alone third, 4th, 5th, etc?

Most people aren't targeting anything that gets over 100,000 searches a month, and even then second result of page 2 is only seeing 1.5% of monthly search traffic.

1,500 clicks, and maybe 1% of those convert? 150 conversions? A month? That seems really low. Unless it's some crazy high payout per conversion like north of $10, then maybe it makes sense?

Anyone want to chime in here?

Yeah, I mean I could see the benefits of getting to page 2 and 3, if you were there for 100 keywords, and that combined added up to 1M searches a month maybe, you'd still be getting a decent amount of click through traffic.

Maybe it's a proof of concept, if you can go from nowhere to 70's then maybe you can get to 30's later? and 10's one day?

In most cases it makes no sense to be on the bottom of page 1, let alone page 2 :) Ranking on page 2 is the easy part, moving to page 1 than top 5 is the trick.

That theory is not entirely correct. When you are on 2,3 or even 4th page for your primary keywords you will be surprised to see better rankings for many longtails which you never knew existed and the kind of traffic it can bring in. So any kind of ranking does make sense. On a side note it also indicates how much more effort is required to further improve that rankings. Definitely there will be a confidence boosting factor which let us believe in what we are doing and how correct we are with it.

I totally agree to this. Have had the same experience with many of my keywords.

Yeah you bring up a good point, ranking my #1 keyword, put me on the map for like 50 long tail keywords, all with pretty shitty traffic, generally speaking, but a couple had decent traffic.

I thought the only confidence boosting factor was $$$ lol

If out of 1500 only 1 is converting then I would say this is not the right conversion rate. May be your content is not approaching to the right people.
You can ask me for help.

    Algo? Let's play with you.
Who care about being somewhere rather than Page 1?
When someone say his KW moved from N/A to 73 he doesn't mean he is going to make a fortune of being #73, but he probably means that the service he used helped him and does work.
    That's the whole point.

And he went from nowhere to #73. When he purchases another service it will go to page 4, then another service over 2,then another and page 1

everyone targetting 1st page not to be on 2nd page and so on. Only if they know they are in 2nd page, they can do some work to make it 1st page.

The point is the service someone is reviewing has seen a new keyword ranking quickly and this is the first reporting for feedback.
Probably the next few days it moves to number 49 then a week later 29 then a week later 11 and then finally it arrives at number 3.

People who buy a service don't leave a review or feedback on a daily basis for each and every service or keyword.

Just because it went from nowhere to page 8 doesn't mean it will get to page 1/2. you can just optimize your onpage seo and get page 3/4 for medium/low keywords ..I have a brand new website with only 1 article ranking page 3 for it's keyword with 0 backlinks lol

I think we're talking at cross purposes here my friend, I was meaning people leave such reviews to show that a service has worked on the keyword.

I understand, but i think such reviews don't really reflect on the quality of the services .. because results might improve or get worse over the next couple of weeks. Assuming there are legit reviews, because from what i see in the market place, plenty of reviews are made by users with 1 month old accounts which is very shady to me.

People are short sighted and can't think beyond what is put in front of them.

You didn't read that correctly, out of 1500, 1% convert, as in 150 conversions, which I think is pretty good considering the inherent nature of any kind of affiliate offer. If anyone is personally getting better than 2, 3, 5% conversions on their site, I'd love to know what the niche is and/or the quality of the site.

Yeah, if you continue to move up that's great, so this really confirms my previous statement that moving from no where to somewhere, is a proof of concept that it can continue to improve, interesting. Simple math denotes that anyone who gets to top 5 for any half way decent niche, with good search traffic (1M+ month) and a decent quality website, with content and a solid up-sell should be doing at least 5 figures a month.

Any members broken 6 or 7 figures a month yet?
