Why do people buy expired domain for 301 redirect instead of using it for their SEO/authority blog?

I've seen someone buying an expired domain to redirect to his brand new domain.
I need more information about it.

When you redirect you get the backlinks from the old domain but Im also not sure if its the best technique though.

Sometimes the expired domains are not very brandable.

Is this true?
Yes, those backlinks would be listed among the list of links of the receiving domains.

But before doing your 301 redirect ensure you have restored all the authorities of the previous domain. That is make sure that before you redirect, all the backlinks of the old domains have started showing up on the list of backlinks on your GSC.

So what this means is that, I can rank on keywords which some authority sites are ranking for if I redirect a good expired domain to my new blog?

Buying an expired domain for a 301 redirect can be cheaper than buying a new domain and investing in SEO to build its authority.
So I can easily do this through my domain registrar or after Installing WordPress?

Depends on the backlink history of the site, a 301 can effectively send the backlink juice and DA for the site to the redirect location

Does this work for a fresh domain also?

No, 301 redirecting a fresh domain will not give you results (backlink profile moved to new website) because there are no links to begin with.
I mean redirecting to a fresh domain, not from a fresh domain... Will that help the fresh domain?

Yes, if done correctly a 301 will help a fresh domain. This is exactly what a lot of people use 301's for.

It does take some time for a 301 redirect to take effect understand.

Like a month? three months....?

The expired domain may have already built up a significant amount of backlinks and authority in the eyes of search engines. By redirecting the domain to their own website, the buyer can essentially inherit that authority and potentially boost their own website's search rankings.
And another one I think the buyer may have simply purchased the expired domain as a strategic move to prevent their competitors from using it.

i did this in the past

I have a tool to search expired domain on YouTube, I bought some domains and redirect to CPA offers, I had made some leads but no much, mostly traffic i got does not convert well

Better than buying a fresh domain with no history
Dropped domains are riskier

You could, but it' not a guarantee. Though with a redirected strong expired domain, your new site/domain becomes stronger.
