why do i need so many links to rank?

this is stupid tbh if i was a white hat id never get this many links, not in 1000 years

i wonder how u guys are ranking

because

i swear these links i can make barely help at all

This is the problem with most people. Mate, it's not the number of links that matter but the quality. What kind of links have you been building if i may ask?
 
I would suggest you to prefer quality than quantity.
Having relevant and high quality backlink will help in ranking.

Exactly if you want to take a giant down from the front page think like a giant, first make your homepage strong, then on your inner page which you wish to rank shoot off guest posts, niche edits, strong pbns, and social signals and you don’t need 1000 links , if your on page is good you’ll be able to rank quickly with few of these links combined

They’re links inserted in old aged posts and pass the highest power there’re many sellers selling these and you can either purchase it directly through them or try to get @t0mmy free niche edit giveaway or purchase it from him either way these links should be part of one backlinks portfolio

If my competitor has 7000+ back links how many “quality" back links do I need in order to compete??
 
It's All about quality and how relatable your backlink is to your website link.
:)

Many links means more websites trust your website. That Indicates google that your website is a trusted one in the particular niche your are targeting so it ranks you higher.

There are many things to consider here. First, what type of links are the 7000+ your competitor has? Are they bookmarks, social profile links or comment links? Or, are a good chunk of them premium posts sourced from authority guest posts, niche edits, and powerful PBNs? It all boils down to the quality in the backlinks. And the more quality links you have in your link profile, the more authority you have in your niche when it comes to ranking.

So, to answer your question. If the 7000+ links are poor quality, then you probably need just a handful of quality links to outrank them. I don't think anyone can tell you a specific number you need without providing them the exact details.

Quality not quantity!
 
"Quantity"of backlink is not important for ranking "Quality" Backlink is needed for ranking..
 
Because the competition has increased a lot over the years and you have to perform accordingly.
 
Anyone closely working with links has one best suggestion: Quality over quantity. Period.
 
Quality over quantity and it gets progressively harder on a somewhat logarithmic scale to increase DA and other metrics.
 
20 people here said to go for quality instead of quantity but not a single person said what quality link is in his understanding
