That is because shared hosting has certain restrictions on the amount of emails that can be sent every hour.

    Thanks bro. That makes sense.....

So typically VPS you have no limit? Also, let me ask you - if I was to use PHP List, who is that handles Spam Complaints? Obviously these should be managed and reduced by me - but when you own the entire process (via PHP List and VPS) is it the Hosting Provider that has to manage complaints? Does that make sense? Thanks again

Even VPS has a limit but the limit is set to a lot higher than shared hosting. Regarding Spam Complaints, whenever a hosting companys gets that, they normally forward the same email to the customer as Email spamming is considered very serious.

What would you suggest is the rate whereby they Hosting company would get concerned - 5% spam complaints?

With hosting it is much more powerful and flexible. Not to mention you can cloak your IP at all times.

Ownig 10 good domain names and sending only 100-200 emails a day per name has kept me out of trouble.
Only works if 2000 emails is all you want to send though. I know some of you guys go 10-50x that and that needs a different approach altogether.
