Why are cellular connection always so bad?

I have noticed with residential wi-fi connections there’s fantasric reliability but when using cellular can’t remember a time when the connection hadn’t suddenly dropped or became frozen at least once within a typical frame of time, lets say two hours or so of consistant use.

Why are cellular connections so unreliable?
