    Hi guys,

I have a new domain, about 1+ month old. I have bought a back link package for it, and so far in all of that time, when I go to Yahoo site explorer it is showing 45 links indexed - so that is not too much? (Or is there more links that Google sees, perhaps Google has uncovered all of them - which would be a fair bit higher..)

I am ranking in Yahoo in the first few results for my not-so-popular keyword. But in google, using Market Samurai, it is showing around page 270...

I am still building links daily, but not sure why this has happened?

    Thanks for your help!!

Thanks for your help. I will continue to build the links, and hopefully it all goes well. I just am a little worried, as I hear some people get into top 10 for google in 2-3 weeks, when my site is older than this and it is showing almost 300th page for my keyword (which is only about 2000 searches per month)

I have a better story: Number ONE on Google, but nowhere to be found on Bing. And this is all whitehat. Almost 6 months old domain. Try to be smart now ;)

I wouldn't be complaining at all if I was number one! :p But that being said, I am showing in google for around 300th page place, yahoo for 1st page, and on bing... no where to be found. Maybe it is just that bing sucks...

How you rank in one search engine has absolutely nothing to do with how you rank in the others as they use different algorithms.

While the number of links you see in Yahoo is an indicator of how you are doing with your links it really does not tell you how many links Google has found. Google may have found more or possibly less.

What you need to do is to check out the link profile of the site at #10 for your keyword. How many links does that site have? What types of links? Do they have a lot of quality links? aged links? etc. That is your goal when building links if you want to get on the first page. The number of competing sites and number of searches does not matter in the least, what matters is what you need to be the guy at #10 so you can get on the first page.

As your site is only a month old I would not be checking your rankings all the time. Any ranking you get in the first few months is smoke anyway. You know you need links so just keep steadily building them and your rankings will improve.

Sound advice. I am always trying to build links anyway, but I am wondering a little if I am in the sandbox/google dance mode right now. I will continue to build my links as I have been doing though - hopefully that irons out.

I was just hoping to hit first page a whole lot sooner, seeing as I am just competing for local SEO and there isn't that much competition..

yahoo normally finds more links than google.

So that is why your probably doing betting in yahoo.

First off, Bing and Yahoo are the same search engine now, Yahoo is powered by Bing. Get caught up on your SEO news.

2nd, did you check to see if your site is even indexed in google? I mean, maybe the site is new, but for a low value keyword, on what I would assume is a keyword matched domain (based on yahoo serp), you should come out of the gate pretty strong, given you have some idea of what ranking actually entails.

You know, I thought that bing powered Yahoo too, but i got a say on something like over 30 sites and more I've sold off. Bing and Yahoo are miles apart on where they rank my pages let alone my websites. And even more oddly, bing won't have indexed many of my sites yet, long after I'm in the top 5 with yahoo. I find with exact match domain names to keywords rank highly and quickly in yahoo, regardless of amount of content or backlinks.

This example may help you, if site A has 1,000 backlinks, and is 5 years old, and site B has 1,000 backlinks ALL from the exact same pages using the same anchors, with the same on site SEO, and is 1 month old and everything else exactly related to page A, page A will still rank higher, why? Because google values older sites versus newer ones, point being, give it some time, grats on being 1st on yahoo though, but only the big G really matterws for SERPS.
