I used to rank #1 for a highly competitive keyword for 6 months straight. I did some "maintenance" backlinking and subsequently dropped to #4. That was 3 months ago.

For the last 3 months the ENTIRE 1st page of "G" has been EXACTLY the same. The top 10 sites just dont "dance" like ALL my other keywords do. Its truly amazing.

I have tried buying high PR homepage backlinks, creating fresh content daily, etc and nothing.

The whole friggin top 10 is exactly the same as 3 months ago and no matter what I do I cant get my site to go up or even drop down for that matter.

It amazes me because the 3 sites above me have 1/2 the number of quality backlinks, 1/2 the number of overall backlinks, just as much content.

They only have a couple years on my website. Thats the only part they beat me at as I have much better on page seo as well.

Forget me moving...... I just cant believe that for this keyword NOTHING moves..lol

    3 months and counting

I know sometimes it's hard, but you have to think about the whole picture, not just your own sites if that makes sense. I'm not saying ignore your sites or give up on them.

You need to be consistent when building links, and you need to update them with content to keep the spiders coming back, but you have to remember that there are literally billions of sites being crawled everyday by google.

Not to mention the countless new sites being added everyday.

Also, Google is a machine that is constantly being changed, updated, and tested.

The best thing to do is to keep moving forward. Continue to build links and add content to your sites. Just don't make the mistake of getting hung up on one particular promotion.

I have a niche that I used to dominate and now I bounce on and off of the first Page of Google so frequently it gives me whiplash. If you put my stats next to all of the top 10 sites, I should OWN the #1 spot, hands down. But I don't. I just keep bouncing.

It's very frustrating and the only thing you can do is consistently keep hammering it with backlinks and fresh content. Someday, what is rightfully mine will be - I just know it.
