Was just wondering if people would still continue to work at their offline job if they were earning enough not to?

I work as a management consultant and really enjoy it - don't know if I'd want to give up the interaction with the business community, even if I was earning a million a year from blackhat stuff.

I'm not there yet, but I'm pretty sure I'll find a way to balance the two.

    What do others think?

As soon as I possibly can my day job's a goner. I don't like schedules or managers and my day job has both.

Haven't worked a dayjob in two years and I love every minute of it. I go to coffeeshops during the day and watch the 9 to 5 slaves wasting their lives away making someone else rich. I travel all over at a moment's notice and always have girls to take along...what more could I ask for?

I hear ya! I probably should have mentioned that my day job involves me working for my own consultancy firm, and that I too travel all around the country, and work from home the rest of the time....

    Definitely makes things more pleasant!

i think if i was making good money online, i would keep my dayjob to speed up enlarging my bank account.

my goal is to get $1m in the bank. and with a decent ROI of 6%, that would get 60k a year in just interest, which is sufficient for where i live, and i never have to touch the principal.

so far i'm only 1/10th of the way there ... :(

Ha! My situation is extremely similar to what you describe, down to the shift and time at work spent doing online stuff...

I'd definitely keep the day job if I could afford not to. If it makes me more money, then I'll do it!
If I was on a million, it'd be a different matter...

So, what's the threshold, do you think? It's interesting to think about!

I'd like to say I'd give up my day job if I made $2 million per year, but it's probably a moot point - anyone making that kind of money would be doing it more than full time anyway, with outsourced help as well.

Ummm. How shall I put this nicely....

I F****ing HATE my day job. It is gone AS SOON AS I can pay off my credit card debts. I hate it so much I want to go on unemployment benefits right NOW. I could go on and on... let's just say the threshold is waaaaayyyyy below $2 million a year, right now I'm thinking $20 thousand a year (or maybe even $2 thousand a year on a bad day).

Well, they say necessity is the mother of invention - good luck, and USE that hatred of your job to propel you into internet riches! If the motivation is strong enough, it will happen! ;)

I havent worked a regular job since Nov 2006. I've spent a lot of money on consulting and investing to help insure this and I keep building more income sources almost every month to keep from even thinking about it. I'm not ever going back. Although I never really had just a day job. I had a fulltime job and a construction company on the side which took more time throughout the weeks, months, years than the fulltime so I guess I consider working online a vacation from which I will leave from.

Yes that's really true. There is only 2 things that motivate in this world- the Carrot or the Stick. At this point in my life it's the Stick that is driving me. But I am COMMITTED to making a S***LOAD so the Carrot will take over.
