    1. 100 to 150 dollar per month which are decent and get everything but you could spend 200 to 300 dollar if you want the high class room.

Lived there for 4 years. I wouldnt go back.

Visas you're dodging your tail at every checkpoint. I got a work visa but then started IM and was on tourist visas which is highly illegal. Have an open plane ticket out of there or leave enough in an emergency account dlto set yourself up in a different country.

They don't want you there. They want tourists for two weeks at a time.

Don't stick to one place move about and stay in neighbouring countries for a few months at a time.

Or go and open a bar there and get stabbed like all other farangs.

Yes first, but can I ask how many girlfriends did you make from there ? Also, of course if you go to pattaya, they are just looking your pocket.

Man, thats so pessimistic reply. If you are good with them than they are good with you do.
Dont know who you are, but 99% people go there are getting drunk and move like they can buy anything with their money.
Thais dont like these kind of people of course.

We looked at moving to Koh Samui 3 years ago, viewed several properties for long term rentals.
Visas was easy we were told, hop across the border, get it stamped and job's a good one.

The internet out there is very good, at a cheap price. Cost of living is cheap ( depending on your requirements ).

Downsides is the businesses aspect, you need a local to open your business ( was our understanding ).
I know a couple of guys who lived out there and one has moved to Australia as he is married with kids and felt it too unstable, the other took a job in Singapore and loves it there.

If your face fits and you can make friends / have friends there then you'll have fun, but you're seen as an outsider and they will close ranks quickly.
Bribes are a regular ritual, and loyaly is often bought by whoever has the biggest wad of cash.

First I live in north Malaysia, 1 hour drive car from Malaysia to Thailand LEL.

Have experience travel to many places in thailand.

I have a lots of thai girls friends.. i mean friends.. and ex.

Not random bar or prostitute girl. Some are model.

    Fair skin. Good body figure.

    $$$ number one for them.

Even they hate their own man, but they love em more, compare to foreigner, due to similar language and culture.
Even they know, once they got baby, those man will leave em. I cant brain the logic. But that's how women logic work.

They reject the nice guy, and accept the jerk.

But when they start getting old, have sons, that time, they will start hunting the farangs for money. :/

I was in Thailand many many times and also will go there next week again (just came back from there two weeks ago though). I will live over there during the winter time. Guess from October/November '16 to March/April '17.

Apartments: Depends on the city and location. You can find a room for $100 per month (in BKK it is more), but don't expect too much. As always there is a open end for rental prices if you want it to be luxurious.

Living: It can become expensive in BKK, Pattaya or some island if you eat in a restaurant three times per day. Local markets and super markets are cheap (compared to Germany).

For visa: You can get a normal visa first (30 days) then you can extend this one for 30 days more (have to pay 2k baht I think), otherwise you can make a visa run. Just fly to another country (Malaysia or Singapore is pretty cheap) stay there for a few days and then fly back to Thailand and get your 30 days again. This can get kinda tiring after some months and I heard the Thai government is very strict now. It happened that they didn't let in some guys which seems to do visa runs. So you should be aware of that.

    What else you should now:

Never fall for a Thai girl. I don't wanna sound negative or something like that, but me by myself had dozens of Thai girls / girlfriends. Some are pretty dumb and don't really have any perspective. Especially the girls who are coming from the north east (Isaan) of this country. They are like gold digger who are looking for a stupid foreigner. Mostly these girls already have children or are married in their hometown. You shouldn't fall for them. Other girls are really smart and try to manipulate you, acting something or telling you sweet things. One time I had a girl and she was jealous as fuck when I texted a girl, but at the same time she was meeting with many different boys and also having sex with them and so on. Kinda paradox huh? This is how fucked up this is.

Don't fall for them. At first they will do everything for you, but after some time they will ask you for things (clothes, necklace, whatever) to check if you are willing to pay for them. In this country it is all about money. Don't be stupid. Especially girls are trying to manipulate weak guys with emotions or sex. Always be objective and use your brain. Dump the girl if she wants something from you, there are lots of girls you can just pick another one.

In general you should never trust any thai person, especially when it comes to money or business. Just don't do it. These people are willing to do EVERYTHING for money. They even sell their own children. And this is the fucking reality (unfortunately).

Don't get me wrong please, I love Thailand. The country is beautiful, the beaches are excellent, the food is superb. But the most people are garbage (cuz they know you are a foreigner) and they try to cheat and trick you whenever they can.

You sound like you got played.

For visas they have an Elite option where you pay around 10-15 grand and can stay for 5 years no questions asked. 3 grand a year to avoid all the visa run bullshit really isn't a bad deal.

As for just wanting tourists... Well yeah, no shit... What country doesn't? It's the same pretty much anywhere you go

I'm actually sad to see these kind of comments, but yes unfortunately it's like more than 90% is fucking true.
Lots of nice people here and lots more garbage.

About the girl falling in love with farang idk why but farang seems to have more priority than Thai people. For example, if you got in to restaurant together with Thais you will be the first they come to get order and speak a lot more polite than usual...This is not about money but you guys are seen to have higher class which leads to girl falling for you.
This is just my understanding and yes there are some of them really falling in love with you in the first place but when they get the money they want more...(I don't know much about girls from other countries but I think would be the same)

The best way to stay in Thailand for a long time is to use education visa, you can go sign up for Thai lessons and you will be good to go for a year, you can renew it for many years, just by changing the schools. It should cost you maximum 1.5 grand a year and around $200 a year for extensions ($50 every 3 months).

As for living costs, you can live comfortably below $300/month (I am serious) if you don't drink or travel much, and around $1,000 for quite a luxury living. Local food is quite cheap here, it costs around 80 - 90 cents a meal (20 - 25 baht) and if you want to eat only European foods, then the price is much higher (around $4/meal or 120+ baht).

Apartments are quite cheap as well, you can get a clean, decent apartment (fully furnished) for $150/month in Mahasarakram or pretty much anywhere in Thailand except Bangkok.

    * You have to know that Thailand does not have a good public transportation system (except Bangkok), so you will need to rent a scooter (around $90/month) to get around.

That's all I can think of right now. Good luck, man.

PS. If you have questions, feel free to PM me. I live in Chiang Mai, by the way.

Thailand has been very appealing to me lately as well. I'm looking to stay there for roughly 8 weeks later this year to see how I enjoy it. I like the beach and nightlife, so Pattaya seems like a good starting point -- although I might venture out to less touristy places as long as the internet connection is decent.

My biggest concern right now is there seems to be a HUGE discrepancy between the prices people list for accommodations versus what's listed on sites like AirBNB. I'm guessing they just jack up the prices for unsuspected Westerners on these sites. So how do I book accommodations without getting hosed? Maybe book for a week with AirBNB, then once there do some local bargaining?
