I nominate the guy who runs a small business here in my town.

He lives about an hour away from where his store is and works 6 days a week from 9 AM to 8 PM and has no help at all as he does everything.

I stopped in his store the other day as there were no cars in his parking lot and he and I chat sometimes about various things. I didn't want to or need to buy anything but I like the guy and we have some of the same mindset.

We talked about people complaining about his prices despite the fact that they would have to make a round trip drive of about 25 miles to purchase the kinds of products he sells. His prices are .50 to 1.00 higher than those stores in town.

My thoughts are that people would be best serving their community by purchasing from the small businessman anyway and that an insignificant amount of money should not matter and that those who did the 25 mile round trip to save a buck should be drug tested.

We talked about different cuisines and some of the kinds of foods he and his family like and some of the kinds of foods my family and I like.

He has a son in college and we talked about being Fathers with children making their way in the world and how we have to let them make their own mistakes.

He has a thick accent so I have to listen as closely as I possibly can to understand him but I'm OK with that as I like him and that is a minor issue in a "friendship".

His store could use someone to come in and clean and perhaps someone to come by and tidy up the outside. The building needs a little attention but nothing major. I'd probably make some changes if it were my business but he seems to be doing just fine.

I know where he lives as he was closed for a week and had a sign up saying he was closed because he was sick and did a little investigation work and was going to take a ride to his home to make sure he was OK a while back. He lives in a nice home in a nice area so what he is doing works for him and his family.

You all can nominate the Jeff Bezos and the Elon Musks and whoever... that is fine.

I'll nominate this guy (people call him John but that is not his name and in a million years I could not pronounce his actual name); he is the heart and soul of business and without guys like him all of our economies would suck.

I think Jeff Bezos. To me Amazon is super impressive - they started off selling books, then they moved on to being one of the biggest online retailers selling every type of product you can think of.

Then they somehow got into a completely different vertical - cloud computing - and made a huge and unparalleled success of that as well - it feels like he just looked at logistics as a simplified concept that could be applied to anything - products, data, deliveries.

To me that company and the people behind it are amazing.

I was going to consider him, but the profit margain of Amazon is very low compared to Alibaba.
