The amount of posts I find myself reporting these days that go along the lines of "Great method, thanks" are beyond count. Newbies are obviously bumping up their post count until they hit the magic number 15 and are able to send PMs.

I'm really curious though, who are they sending all these messages to? Maybe I'm just forever alone, but I can't think of one instance during my time in BHW where I've received a PM from a member with 15 posts.

There are countless fools doing this every day, I would imagine the "Lucky 15 cult" has a membership of over 10k and increasing. Are they doing it just for the hell of it? To see who can pass initiation: "Create 15 of the spammiest possible posts without getting banned"?

Anyone actually received a PM from these guys? What did they say?

I agree with what you're saying, but to play devils advocate...

I think most of the time, people are actually saying thanks and they're just new.

I remember when I first joined, I did this just so I could pm BST thread owners.

It's hard being new, and saying thank you is the sure fire way to not sound like a jackass.

That would explain my lack of PMs.. It brings an analogy to mind of a parasite and a host, like an ox or a yak... The host doesn't report the parasite to the admins, because the parasite is secretly bringing the host more business, but on the surface the parasite just annoys the hell out of all the other woodland creatures.. Yup, that makes sense to me.

Having just been new back in April, it is a little weird. You can't post methods or responses and be taken seriously right off the bat. It's kind of one of those "See what the cool older kids are doing" thing. You just have to get acclimated I guess.

I don't know dude, I think a good method will be appreciated no matter who posted it, I mean some of the older methods I've posted get more response than the newer ones... A good idea is always a good idea.

I should rephrase that. I think it's a mentality of thinking it wouldn't be appreciated due to lack of proof of character. After all, we are our worst enemy.

Yeah, I remember it took me forever to find relevant threads for me to comment on just so I could PM BST owners to get services done...

I can't speak for others, but I remember reading this forum for months before posting for the first time.

I think that they just post like this to be able to PM users that are offering Freebies.

Yea i agree, that's the good practice i believe. newbies don't know about reporting and getting banned. May be they don't bother

They send PM's selectively, based on who they think they can sell to, or who they can scam. I got one the other day. Had a problem, got a PM, found him on Skype, obvious crack head. Kept asking me the same questions over & over again. I never gave him a chance to tell me he would need $x.00 "up-front". NO WAY am I going to trust this unknown & flakey nobody with my client's FTP login information.

Meaning that, the solution to these scammer types is not more stringent enforcement of the rules, the solution is to pay attention and think about what might happen BEFORE it happens.

For me it was 2 years and I decided to be patient and let my post count grow naturally rather than posting crap - it took longer but it was important to me.

I think a lot of the '15 posts' people join after reading a specific thread by a specific person. They join so they can offer that person a solution or service of theirs.

Clearly it's only when they join that they realise they cannot PM and that's when the spammy posts start.

I think this is why we don't get a lot of PM spam from newbies too - they are targeting just one person.
