Thought I would document my efforts for a whitehat SEO campaign for a UK business.

When I say whitehat, I mean no automation, no mass links and hopefully nothing that will cause any problems for the client (seeing as I have a relationship with them outside of this venture).

I am targeting two keywords that I consider low/medium competition- I will publish reports later on.

    Keyword1:
    #56

    Keyword2:
    #26
(this jumped 41 spots today, I think that's coincidence though).

Initial work for keyword 1 is to add 3 high quality site wide text links on related sites from http://www.text-link-ads.com?ref=194335

For keyword 2 I am going to scrape all of the links from the top 5 competitors (using http://www.ibacklinkpro.com/) and then organise them by quality and then start requesting links / link exchanges from them - my aim is 5/10 requests per week - this tactic is copied from a member here, I'll post credit shortly.

No indexing as I want everything to hit google naturally.

I am a UK business (accommodation provider) and took this approach some 3 years ago apart from the buying links part. I scraped the top performers links for my chosen (2) KW's and tried to emulate their linking structure whilst at the same time I did some manual link-building, comment blogs, ezine and other quality article submissions, a little link exchange and a wiki or two but very much niche orientated.

Results were very good and I managed to get to positions 3 on the kw which the adwords tool describes as difficult (both main KW have a global of about 41,000 Monthly). I also picked up lots of long tails along the way.

I also used IBP to work out the ideal KW density of the top 10 and tweaked my site to attain that. (Given the new algo updated where they have tweaked kw density I am not sure this is such a critical factor anymore)

Couple weeks ago my main KW have fell to the top of page 2 although I am still ranking for long tails and for 2x specific niche KW (around 5000 monthly) where I have written several unique and quality articles. I am still trying to work out if this was a penguin bash or a panda (my site was a little thin on some inner pages and the vast majority of backlinks were to the domain).

My advice at this stage is to vary your anchors with kw and some generic stuff like click here for more info, read more ect. Also vary your link pattern you should be doing more than text links and blog rolls.

On TLA they range from $15-$100+ per month depending on various factors.

Ah, good to see someone has had success with a similar approach.

Yes, I have build a big list of anchor texts to use, also I'll be building various links that I scrape from competitors - I'm sure there will be sites, directories and so on.

But at least to start with I'm not doing profiles/wikis or anything like that.

I will assess progress in a month with this strategy and the re-evaluate.
