After google panda and penguin update what we should follow to build backlinks?
Great question piscesmail123!
Submitting links to directories can be beneficial for white hat SEO. They offer one-way links as opposed to link exchange tactics which search engines frown on, in most cases you can choose the anchor text that you use for the link allowing you to choose targeted keywords or keyword phrases, most of them are free (paying the fee at high profile directories may not give you the return you are looking for especially when there are many other SEO tactics you can use) and directories also offer targeted traffic because search engines comb directories for relevant content.
Create external properties around the web such as business listings, wikis and submit articles to article and document sharing sites that contain useful information as well as links back to your site.
A good rule of thumb is to submit to directories that were not made for link building or SEO. In other words, find relevant directories that actually want to help people find relevant content. Google recently deindexed or penalized sites that were set up for the sole purpose of link building.

The term "Whitehat link building" is an oxymoron. If you're building links, it's blackhat, no matter what some fancy service provider tells you.
In regards to link building, just stick to high quality contextual stuff Web 2.0's, relevant blog posts and comments, articles, press releases, etc.
Don't take everything this site said too seriously - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/web-directory-submission-danger.
They exaggerate a lot.
That is what, we call whitehat.
If you are to go by what this site said you would have stopped IM long ago.
I suggest: Do everything like before but in a more precise way. try to care about quality and make the posts in your blogs regularly. diversify your links that's enough.
just do a legal link building no matter what update release by Google
Yeah agreed fully ! If you're in SEO, you're in blackhat - there's no other color of hat, period. There's nothing exist like "golden bronze medal".
