There's that thing some people call a "search engine" that is free and web-based. The best of them seems to be called g00gle.

When properly used (i.e. with the right footprints and search operator), I can make wonders.

To take these research to a whole new level, I'd advise buying scrapebox. It's not free but at that price, it's a steal.

It's not a software, but when you search google for:
"Powered by vBulletin"+keyword you will find VBulletin Forums with your special keyword in the name.
This works for most forum types. Then you just need to check if they have urls in their public profiles to be sure it is working for backlink creation.

I second that , Scrapebox will find you those blogs - forums with the help of operator ("quote") footprints , problem is that you need to find good proxies otherwise you will get few results , or you have to search for them with "quotes " and it is not so accurate and targeted , the question you have asked is the task I am doing for 1 month 24/7 . I have 1650 my niche related keywords and I search for High PR blogs - forums with scrapebox . Only problem is good proxy .
I don't want to buy private because of simple searching , so I everyday search for mine , because operator searches are much more better (inurl:....)

I just put together a php script to make this easier for my team to find forums today.
d/l it here uplaod the html and php to your root then in a browser goto: yoururl.com/forumsearch.html
input your keyword and press go.

the readme.txt explains how to tweak it.
Its a very simple script :D
