    The site is
    Code:
    pureseo.co.nz
This guy features in weekend paper calling out unethical companies and touting his company's gloriously whitehat standards. He is also putting on a $900 a seat workshop next month where he goes in on "blackhat SEO companies", exposing them to marketing managers of the top national companies, & of course promoting his own service.

This just ticks me off. I had a quick look at his site's footprint and found -

    1. 39.5% of his site's traffic comes from India, this in spite of him claiming they don't outsource outside of NZ. Why would that be?
    2. His footer backlinks on client sites are d0-foll0w, despite him claiming there is no "link juice" being passed on to their site from footer links on client sites.
    3. I pointed out 6k recent backlinks from a clothing ecommerce site, which he denies. (It's no biggie but why deny it? These backlinks are being removed by the thousands over the weekend)
    4. A 301 redirect they hadn't removed for a while from an xrumer service website.

I know the Alexa traffic could be neg SEO as well as the 301 but still..

Don't know why this irks me so much .. is it the air of smugness or the $900 "black hat exposition"?

Why not attend his workshop and call him out? Why not send a letter to the editor of the paper you refer to proving your case? Could get you some business in the end.

I didn't write a letter but I did comment on the article, to which he replied stating I must be using free tools, his metrics show otherwise, they do footer backlinks that don't pass on linkjuice to their site yadda yadda. Then I had a comment deleted, so yeah.

The workshop is tailored to high profile companies and he will be calling out various SEO companies during the workshop.. hence my desire to bring up some of these points while he is in his morally superior saving the world from unethical SEO mode.

    Haha. Nice one ;)

In NZ a N0-f0ll0w is called a "YOU. SHALL NOT. PASS...LINK-JUICE" link.

Right, soooo... why not write a letter to the editor of the paper? (is "weekend paper" a website or a newspaper?)

Right. Soooo..... why not attend the workshop and call him out? Are there attendance criteria aside from having $900 to burn?

Here's the thing, my dood: It is a rare thing that has been lain at your feet. You have a once-or-twice-in-a-career opportunity to not only satiate your desire to obliterate a bullshit artist; but an opportunity to educate people as regards the great arroyo of 'grey area' in SEO, that are A.) ignorant; B.) have money; C.) want to spend that money on SEO.

I promise you, this is an opportunity; manna from heaven; the cosmos bestowing a gift; magic beans and shit. Pick your analogy.

You have to laugh, corporate seo is high end blackhat,jc pennies, amazon all been caught doing it.My issue with this guy is not the $900 a seat if there are enough mugs, great, it's making other seo businesses look bad when he does the same thing.1st rule of marketing, don't diss the competition, show what you have is better. So his approach is doomed from the off if anyone has done any homework like the OP.Blixx is right this is actually a money spinner, you could expose him early and start your own $900 a seat show.It just needs one person to know seo and he's screwed, people get angry when they've been spotted,as I say his first mistake was "exposing his blackhat competitiors" when he is doing the same thing,it's called marketing suicide.Look at top marketers, they rarely diss the competition because it backfires, instead focus on positives,my method ranks for xxxx, keywords etc, corporate people only want results, the guy won't last 5 minutes.
The footer link trick has been used from day dot by web designers so it seems he lacks knowledge anyway.Good luck exposing him OP and I hope you get your rightful reward(more work for yourself).
