Hey BHW!

I'm in the music business. Sadly, I'm not the best at google SEO. I hired a SEO company $500 per month (+ a $1000 deposit) to help increase the ranking of my (non competitive) keyword. It's been about 2.5 months in & I know SEO takes a while, but they've only increased the ranking by +1 (from 22 to 21) which makes my website & socials still on page #3 and lower. Very bad look.

Should I be getting concerned about them doing their job? or should I give them a few months before firing them? I'm on a 6 month contract, with the option of firing them on month 3 (which would be a loss of $2,500 since nothings been accomplished)

I have a call with them later next week regarding the progress, what questions/reports should I ask for to make sure they're doing the correct job?

Also, if they rank my website, will all my social media also be on the first page? They told me yes, but I'm not sure if I can trust them 100% at this point.

I'm considering investing the $500/m elsewhere so I can actually see a positive return on the investment, but I want to give them enough time to do their job.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I'm a noob when it comes to google/ranking etc.

A better question to ask would be to get a complete report of what they've done so far. If they can prove that work is being done, it's acceptable that it may take some time for improved rankings.

But if they can't show anything worth the money, you should move on. And I'd suggest you read the basics of SEO before hiring the next agency.

You should at least know the basics to judge the quality and understand what work is going on BTS. Good luck!

What the guy above said

Are you sure it is low comp kw

It seems like you should go more than 1 position after almost 3 months for low comp kw

I know seo takes time, do not expect to be number 1 but only 1 position for 2500 is no good.

Get ahrefs or some backlinks checker to see what links they place

Also check to see if your social signals went up, it is not important

Did they do any on page seo

They should do at least

Did they tell what kind of links they will build

If they cannot produce anything from beginning till now sue them and write bad reviews

Also check the date of the links if you can to make sure they are not just now getting started

If it’s a new website you can’t blame them, if it’s an aged website the yes they’re not doing well

the website was originally made in 2015 i kept it for a few years, lost it (didn’t pay Shopify) then re-bought the domain early 2019 & been updating it/posting on it ever since.

Cool, I will ask them for a detailed report of exactly what’s been done during the phone call and report back here with updates.

my experience about SEO is, that you need 6+ Months to see higher rank. And after that, its a continuous process which need a permanent monitoring, otherwise you will lost the rank again.

I’m pretty sure it’s a low competitive keyword

They haven’t done any on-page SEO since I’m a musician there’s not much on Page work to do on my site, since it’s really just a landing page for my social media networks & a few music videos.

I emailed them asking for the backlinks this is what they said

“As far as the backlinks go I can share them with you when I get them. It normally takes a while from the time I request them, they get written, published, and then finally indexed. It does take a good amount of time before I can share them but I have no issue doing that as soon as I can”

& are you sure I’d be able to sue them? I would hate to take it there. That’s not nice, but I guess you have a point, because if work hasn’t been done they should be penalized.

it will normally take around 3-5 months to see results. so patience :)

what you can do is, you can invest your money and time also in SEO tools and learn all the stuff.

You can check your website with this SEO Audit Tool, and make all the changes, what the tool tell you
https://seositecheckup.com/https://www.seopowersuite.com/
With tools like Goolge Keyword Planer etc. you can check the keywords
https://keywordtool.io/https://ads.google.com/https://secockpit.com/de/
Later you can switch to pro Tools like Semrush or Ahrefs

In this forum you will find also a lot of topics about backlinking, seo blog post etc.

And in the meantime, you can create also an AdEspresso Account and connect all your social network account and publish your advertisement in Facebook, Instagram and Google ads with a daily budget very easy.
https://adespresso.com/
In the beginning it might be hard because you have to learn everything, but after that you will have new skills for the rest of your life!

I think you would be better off investing that 3k of half a year of work into a couple of strong guest posts.

I could also invest in guests posts as well. SEO + guest posts, but are you sure that would deliver good results for ranking the site? Any services you could recommend?

I received a review copy lately from @hellway2 his service and was impressed.
Haven't tested any other services here in the last years, but his guest post brought my from lower first page to #1 position.
I think it would be best to drop that SEO company and learn a bit on quality links yourself, because they look like they do not know what they're doing.

After 3 months that is awhile so they had enough time to show you the links

They just took your money

As far as sueing it best same country as you
2nd best is friendly countries
Worst is say they are in china
At least so I heard

Also google their name see if any past customers review

You can always do on page seo.

Copy other music sites not word for word of course

Example
Post pic. Put in alt description we are city name famous band

Brief description of band members
John plays the sax
Luis plays old time rock roll
Chris raps
Etc

Also do not think in terms of your website and seo

Think in terms getting traffic to your site
Example
YouTube
Spotify
Etc

Buy from bhw marketplace from seller got great reviews

Dont buy somebody pm you

I am not sure why you are paying that much of money to them. But ask them below questions in next talk:

1. What are the things they have done in On-Page SEO
2. Ask them to show reports on backlinks generated (with Dates).
3. Ask for any other content outreach program they did like Guest post, PBN etc.

Assuming they are only building backlinks to boost ranking, you need to check the link velocity and how they are coping with competitors.

They should include everything that's been done in the monthly report.

1. Website Audit report
2. On-page SEO
3. Off-page SEO

These three should have a handful of tasks carried out.

If you want I can give you a realtime report from Moz & Ahrefs (SEO leading paid tools), if you can share the keywords you're targeting along with your domain name. I can exactly tell you all the works that have been done,be it offpage or onpage & give you a progress report overall.

Maybe they forgot. Yeah right

In my personal opinion, if your website is recent like 1 or 2 years old then it will take at least 6 months to show the results. Nowadays ranking new websites takes a good amount of time. BTW spending 500$/month for noncompetitive KWs is too much. Even though would manage to rank in the top 5 after a few months. You won't get the ROI. SEO is a hard game for marketers nowadays. I am ranking organically 2nd position for medium competitive KWs. But the top SERPs have been dominated by GAds which leave me with nothing at the end of the day.
Overall SEO sucks!
