which Windows Server is the best?

I like using Windows Server 2012 R2

I prefer windows server 2008 R2 as my base server since it is very reliable!

Actually this is a stupid question!

If you have a good server of course you will use 2012 r2.
If you have a week server with old low CPU and RAM power use the one that can accommodate your machine.

If you want better answer, post your server spec.

Aren't the older ones going to have more security holes since they aren't as supported any more or as much compared to the 2012 R2 version?

I agree,server spec does matter
I am considering small VPS servers with 4 gb ram 2 core 2.6ghz+

You can run server 2012 r2 with no problems.
I am running the same server on 2gb ram with two cores ( forgot how much ghz each core is ) and I don't have any problems. I have a lot of CPU and ram left.

No - as long as Microsoft is providing security updates, (which they should be), Windows Server 2008 R2 will be good. Windows Server 2003 is, as far as that I'm aware, not supported by updates.

Extended support for 2003 and 2003 rt finally ends in july of this year.
Main Stream Supported ended in January for 2008 and 2008 rt, Extended support ends in 2020
2012 and 2012 Rt will be on MainStream Support until Jan 2018, and Extended support ends in 2023.

I am currently using Xp and I find it good though.. just fine for me. I have used other versions in Internet Cafe's too but I don't know which one are those.

For what? It's important.

I'll go for 2012 r2. It's pretty fast ,no loading issues plus its very reliable. It's the best one for me.

I thought that 2003 were discontinued along with XP. Learn something new everyday.
