Which URL will have better SEO 'homepage.com/category/service/' or 'homepage.com/service/' ?

Hello,

Assuming that 2 pages have 100% the same internal and external links and the only difference is just the URL itself, please let me know which URL is more SEO-friendly and easier to optimize for Search:

homepage.com/category/service/
or
homepage.com/service/


for example:

designfirm.com/agency/web-design
vs
designfirm.com/web-design

If the 2nd one is more preferable, then please explain why.

can you guys clarify why shorter link is better assuming that both stay in exactly the same place in the information architecture of the website and have exactly the same external and internal links.

2nd One because it is shorter and there is no point to repeat same word in each url..It looks cleaner.
 
Not only do shorter URLs rank better in search results, they are also easier for users to type out and therefore could be seen to improve the user experience, search engines like this.
 
The second one, because it is a short URL, short URL sharing will be easier, and this will increase the credibility of the site.
