    whats up men...

I have a bit complicated question.

Lets say I have a site about Mercedes cars. I do local SEO for different German cities. For example Berlin and Hamburg.

Thus the most important keyword is "Mercedes + city". I have a subsite for each city where I target "Mercedes + city". For example when a prospect lives in Berlin and wants a new Mercedes he will google for "Mercedes Berlin".

Now it becomes a bit tricky: 30% of all clients are English speaking. Therefore there is a German and an English version of each city:

    mercedes/ger/berlin
    mercedes/en/berlin

The interesting is: for most cities German keyword = English keyword

For example I target "Mercedes Berlin" for the German and the English subsite. (Mercedes = Mercedes and Berlin = Berlin in German and English)

The weird thing: For some cities the English version ranks better than the German version in the German SERPS. That means when a prospect with a German IP and German language settings googles for "Mercedes Berlin" he finds our English site first!

Now: Should I focus on backlink building for the English sites in those cases because they already rank better? Or should I shoot on the German site? Because after all I dont know if I can rank an English site on the 1st page on German SERPS.

So use a geo redirect, if he's from Germany he should get redirected to /ger/*city.

Or Ajax the content onto a single site and allow the visitor to select German or English

You should focus on german keyword and continue with it. Google is still analysing your website and may be thats the reason English results are ranking above.
Whats the age of your website.

If your site is .de for German version, then start focusing on German keywords for link building, if it is in .com for both English and German, then start work on ENG version
