    Rhnkmr,

This is a great question. You are sort of comparing apples and oranges here. Note that a 301 redirect or permanent redirect can be accomplished using PHP, JavaScript or in a server configuration file. Cloaking is secondary to redirecting and is not necessary if all you want to do is redirect visitors.

In answer to which is best, it would depend on what your host's server configuration is. For example many webmasters handle redirects using the .htaccess file or some other configuration file. If your host does not support use of this file, you will have to redirect visitors using another method (i.e. PHP or something else). Once you know the answer to that, then you can decide what to use.

If hiding the fact that visitors are being redirected is important, then cloaking should be used as well.

You should generally always use a 301 redirect unless the redirection is only temporary. The 301 signals to search engines that the site has moved permanently and any link authority will be passed on to the new domain.

This article gives some basic information on the different methods of redirecting,

    Hope that helps you,

    Shawn

With my clickbank promotion sites I create a page called "download.php" and use a PHP script to re-direct the visitor to the ClickBank hoplink. I also make sure that all the links on my site to "download.php" are N*Follow.

I haven't had any issues doing it that way. Plus, doing it this way allows me to add a unique ID variable to each hoplink which tells me which page and what keyword made the sale.

I'm kind of wondering with the latest Google updates and such. What will 301 redirects help you nowadays? What's their exact effect and usage?
