    Let's say I want to throw out $30 to get some links to my site. I realize it's not much, but are we able to buy cheap links on here that might help move up our low competition keywords?

    I'm a fan of buying posting rights to somewhere like blogher, patch etc. on fiverr for $5. You would get 5 links with your money. Anyone else have thoughts on these sites?

    I would rather save those 30$, they won't do anything for your site.

    What do you think is the minimum amount to invest in your site to make a difference? (and where)

    Lol, $30 will do fuck all these days. At best I would buy a 2 tier GSA contextual blast to some properties I've built up manually and aged for a while as well as some random sites for good measure.

    If it's about SEO, then invest in information, find people who are at where you want to be someday and learn from them. Think about it, how many people actually make a good living doing SEO from everyone who starts this journey ? A few % at max, that means you have to be better, more dedicated to get there. 30$ is a joke, even if you had the know-how and starting money of let say 3k$ the chances of succeeding are pretty low, I'm not saying it's not worth trying, but you need to have what it takes to be on the winning side. Your thread question, suggests that you don't know much if anything about SEO, so I'd suggest you invest the money into learning, there are some good free resources for people starting out.

    At $30 investment, you will likely get crappy results. Much better you save it and you go build quality links like doing some guest posts.

    Build two web2.0 yourself
    $ 20 - 10 x $2 articles. 5 article on each 2.0. search for $1 dollar content.
    $9 gsa. Split between the 2

    Total $29

    As others have mentioned, $30 would generally only make a small dent in ranking a new site.

    What would probably be the most efficient is to get one solid piece of content somewhere that you could actually show to people. Something like:
    * A basic subreddit for something related to your niche (free to make) and spend the money on setting up a custom stylesheet, original sidebar content, and generally making your forum look legit. Then include a link to your website in the sidebar
    * A post on a decent-ish blog. Something you can potentially share with prospective clients, link to on forums if you want to be more subtle (instead of linking directly to your service), etc.
    * Maybe a press release. Something descriptive/general about your service. Branded anchor text rather than trying to rank for a specific term. Try to get your site to solidly rank for it's own domain name and variations on it.

    An approach like the ideas above will give you something that is actually useful in it's own right even if the dent you make SEO-wise is marginal.
