So I've recently been working on a review website. The idea is you search the term in google and find my site. Originally the layout was Bright Orange and Bright Green on a black background. Stands out a lot and I guess makes you excited which is what I was going for at the time. Yesterday I logged on at 4am and was like, 'wtf have I been doing for the past few month this site is absolutely hidious!' So I worked all night on a new home page. Exactly the same layout as the one before but I changed the colour combination to a metalic steel pattern instead of the green and a gold bar effect instead of the orange. Now I think the site looks far more proffesional however people that I've shown it to are like, 'oh no I liked it better before because now it looks drab and not as colourful' My thinking behind the change was that people would be shocked by the bright colours when coming in from google and want to quickly hit the back button. What are your experiences with bright garish page layouts in terms of conversions? Does it make people excited or does it just put them off all together. Would be very interested to hear your views!
