A lot has been said about guest posts and how awesome they are (if implemented right) but I want to know if INTERVIEWS are the same or better? I've been noticing that a lot of SEO bloggers are recommending interview-based backlinks over guest posts. The thesis? Interviews are based on 'authority.' Guest posts? Well, it's a crapshoot and can get some heat from Google if the blog posting the GP actively solicits for guest posts. Anyone care to clarify this?

In terms of link juice it's the same thing. But in terms of marketing, the interview is better : you get the chance to talk about your stuff, your work and so on. The interview is basically a guest post about yourself.

yeah interview is going to be better for marketing purposes to build your brand however you're more likely to get a guest post.

Both are good, just make sure that your guest post is very high quality, and that you are only posting on blogs that can drive traffic (not just a backlink)

I'd say guest posts. Writers often will offer to write free posts in exchange for a link back to their own website.

If you can get an interview, do it! But there are much more opportunities for guest blogging, so don't limit yourself to only one of them. I suggest guest blogging can take more of your marketing and brand building activities with occasional interviews here and there. So do both and be strategic about all of them.
