Which is more effective - 300+ social bookmarking backlinks or 8 high PR backlinks?

I am currently looking at a choice: 300+ social bookmarking service for $10 OR 8 backlinks on PR2-PR6 sites for the same amount. Which would be more valuable and please explain why? Thanks!

If these 8 sites are related to yours, I would pick them. Bookmarking is more for indexing then ranking and most of those links won't even get indexed - maybe 50-100...
When it comes to linking, relevancy is far more superior then quantity or even PR. My opinion:)

Get the 8 high PR links as long as they are do-follow. 1 link from a PR 6 page is worth more than the 300+ social bookmarking links.

Wow! Three responses within the first 10 minutes of me asking the question =) I really like this forum =)
Thanks for the replies!
But sorry, one more question: These backlinks for $10 (option #2) are not relevant. The particular site for which I want to build backlinks is in a pretty rare niche, I don't think there will be any highly relevant sites in a backlink package. So with this in mind, is it still better to get 8 links on PR 2-6 sites over the Social Bookmarking Service?

As IamNRE said, get both or at least high PR links but I still think bookmarking won't do anything good. You can bookmark your articles manualy to a few popular bm sites to get the same effect.

I think the pr links as well, i am stuck with kinda same q, forum backlinks 50 or so, or 10 high pr bog comments.

Relevancy is irrelevant. High PR+anchor text= Great Backlink.

Depends on who you listen to...
Some people say 1 PR relevant is better than 10 PR1 irrelevant!
I am kind of confused...
I asked one or the other because I just wanted to bookmark individual posts on my blog. So if I do this for each post ($10 Social Bookmarking + $10 backlinks), I might go broke =) What do you think?

It's not true, because one page can be relevant to lots of different keywords at same time, and some part of keywords can be not included in text, that is why google do not know irrelevant it or not.

This stuff is really confusing... Do you guys use any particular tool to check first page competition on Google to see how many backlinks you may need to compete? What is the criteria to find out if you can compete for a certain keyword and how many backlinks you'll need?

Install Firefox, install a plug-in called SEO Quake, this will show you all kinds of info on seo like backlinks, domain age and much more, just do a simple search in google when you have installed the program to see the SEO info for the first 10 results for that keyword.

and if you have money for a program get market samurai, or maybe have a look in the download section here to find it

A PR6 site is a PR6 site whether it comes from a forum post or a social bookmark site. They have exactly the same link juice, the only difference is, social sites want your links and most blog owners don't and might delete you. I use only social sites to rank sometimes. They work fine, but link diversity helps too.

Your comment makes the page somewhat relevant anyway if you can stufff some keywords into it as well.

i would do both, even though the 8 pr sites may carry more weight, but you will still get 300 backlinks which will help your seo rankings.

high PR backlinks that are relevant to your site is better than several bookmarking

It is depend upon Bookmark's page rank, If all these Bookmarks page rank is more than 4, it's more effective than 8 backlinks on PR2-PR6
