How would you choose domain, if you wanted to rank for some long tail keywords starting with weight loss, for example. Would you prefer weightloss. or weight-loss. ? And also if wanted to rank for lets say 30 long tail keywords, all begining with weight loss would you choose your domain wieghtloss.info (.info just for example, because lets say .com .org .net are not available) or you would rather have weightloss-XXXX.com ?
I know this probably doesn't matter that much for ranking, but since i'm going to make several micro niche sites, i think i should know this, before making them and ofc. learning more about SEO.
    Sorry for my english

    I prefer .com

I don't think google cares if your domain is an EMD, so domains like

    • EverythingWeightLoss.com
    • SuperWeightLoss.com
    • WeightLossMadeEasy.com
    would all work.

The benefit of a keyword-rich domain is two-fold. First, the domain name itself is a ranking factor that the engines consider when calculating ranking order. Second, having relevant keywords in a domain name is beneficial because the domain name is the text that other Internet users will use as anchor text when linking.
    Go on with direct weightloss.
In addition, use of hyphens also correlates highly with spammy behavior?and more than one hyphen should not be used in a domain name. For this reason, it's generally better to stick to domain names containing only one or two words.
Regarding mouth to mouth advertising, a name without hypen is always better.

I don't think .com/.net/.info can be problematic (cause you are not building a company or branding website). You can go with it. Personally, i don't like EMD. 50-50 chance for getting a penalty. But i prefer keyword with the domain. @cookiemonste already mentioned. :)

Personally I just stick to .com and .net. By making a brand name related to the niche. (Without dashes)

Pick a brand name. Having "weightloss" in your domain name won't make a huge difference considering the competition.

Go buy an expired domain that has solid links and high authority. That will get you much further than actually having the words weightloss in the domain, worring about .info or dashes in the domain.
A domain that is health related will do.
You are entering such a competitive niche that it will take you a ton of work/money to get a new domain off the ground.
    good luck

This is very good advice. When starting out in a competitive niche just get an established (expired or auction domain) that has lots of history.

If you are going for SE traffic then you are better off getting a good domain that will rank easier than worrying about the domain name so much.

I don't think it matters so much other than if it sounds good and makes your site look credible. Some of the gTLD's are great for specific purposes - .direct is underused and I've got a couple of people doing really well with their "buythisproduct.direct" domain.

.com is the safe standby and you can't go wrong with it but finding decent domain names with it is a slog. Honestly, I'd rather get something that sounds natural with a less good tld than a lengthy domain that's difficult to spell and shouts "all the good names were gone".

in terms of branding value, .io's are really well-regarded with venture capitalists and investors, no idea why.

The ones I wouldn't (personally) touch are .biz, .net (not a fan) or the .something.country, like .org.uk or .co.za. Although even then, if they're used creatively, I'd consider it. The Cook Islands have a location specific .co tld which would be great for certain niches.
