Ok... so here is the thing... one cant just keep using a .com, .net, .org because they are owned by a US Company and the US government can seize the domain at any given time..

I just cant keep working with this kind of uncertainty!

So keeping SEO in mind which extension do you think is the best?

I'm bending towards .eu ... what do you think is the best extension? ..

For my local clients i always get the .com and the local extension of that .com
With the latest developments with Sopa i feel that it's better to play safe and have always a joker in your hand.

Don't go for .eu! EU might follow US Govn. and begin seizing .eu domains. Most safe extensions at the moment are .me, .ws and .biz. Proof - Most torrent websites are moving to the domains!

    On Side Note:

That we are having this discussion proves that internet as we know it is already over. It's a sad day.

The internet is not over yet, there will always exist ways to express ourselfs freely and make money on the digital highway! We came to a point that we need the internet "to survive" and it's just the beginning. We just have to learn to not blindly follow every thing that being said on TV and forums.

I think it's going to be an very interesting year. We've got SOPA and PIPA, maybe the world is going to end, the Arab revolution is continuing, bing is on the rise, g00gle seems to be struggling with their stocks and "above the fold" bullshit, the emerging countries are hopefully going to make a difference on the global market, ...

We just have to adapt and evolve! I just wished that Darwin was alive today, i would love to read the next chapter of his book!

.me, .ws and .biz. were seized by Chanel and DOJ last month

Safe to go with .co, .uk.com, .asia at the moment

.biz seems to me to be the most likely extension to become popular for commercial sites aware of the gestapo issue, since it roughly corresponds to "business" and "commercial" use. Despite Google's noises about devaluing EMDs, they may become more popular than ever if people start using them with the international extensions to compensate for the latter's lack of popularity.

If you are primarily concerned with the US:

    .kp (North Korea)
    .ir (Iran)
    .ve (Venezuela)
    .cu (Cuba)
    .vn (Vietnam)

In this post SOPA era, many people will be trying to get domains with these extensions and the ranking will get tougher I think.

At the end of the day, via ICANN, if someone wants to put enough energy into it and has cause (as you seem to hint they might), they will get any domain.

US will start a war and claim above countries have mass copy of infringement material instead of mass destructive weapon. :) No guarantee in life.

It would be nice if everyone changed, it would make my job easier. And as for the extradition of that kid, there are reciprocal agreements in place with many countries to protect copyrights. I do not agree with SOPA but everyone is jumping all over the US when most of the stuff is stolen from the US and the US is the most active in going after the violators. I guess that I can not come and get your computer because I want to make money with it, can I?

I will leave you with one last thought. Where does most of your money come from? I don't know about you but most of mine comes from the US with a little from UK, AU and CA but not much. I may have had one or 2 adsense clicks from India last year. For me I am sticking with the .com and US traffic. Then again I don't have any sites that infringe either.

I am sure such things can happen but there must be a way to fight them

I always think where is google.com registered as this is site which takes to us to those sites where they teach us to make bombs or download pirated content.

So US first Ban Google everything will solve itself, no need of SOPA or PIPA or PAPA or MAMA

Also I believe you too live in a country so if US seizes your domain name go to court

There is no place to hide, we must fight it is our right just like some of our human rights
