    ---- THREAD CLOSED 02/24/2016 ----
I'm an upper-year CS student at a top 20 university in the world, think UCLA, Cornell, etc. Looking to try out working for an innovative, awesome company for a year to get some experience working for someone else.

I've already applied to Facebook, Google and Tesla.

I want to look for some innovative B2B software companies so I can learn the ropes from the big guys. Thinking I'll apply to SalesForce now too.

Preferably a Silicon Valley company, but not a requirement.

    Any ideas?

Why not to start in small company to collect some experience first? Your CV will look better thereat.

Nothing too small. I'm not going to work at something less than 50 employees, unless it's a startup.

    Yeah, Instagram would be sick.

I will consider a couple of these. Working for HP or Qualcomm just seems boring.

    Instagram is Facebook.

I would start (or attempt to) at Google so that I can build connections with the...hmm..errm... SEO department.

Out of topic question here!! How did you manage to do both IM and pursue Engineering at the same time?? I assume you must be real good at IM too considering you're a Jr.Executive VIP!! Also what your future plan?? Will you be juggling between your IM ventures and CS related job? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions here!!

I'm in a dilemma whether to pursue my Masters ( Made it into a good university - top 100 in the world ) or Continue to do IM and drop everything else!!

From what little I know Google, they have cool looking bean bags and also they kind of are the internet at the moment...

    It's a long story haha

But I will likely streamline my IM projects, just to 1 that is pretty low maintenance and work at the company, and concentrate a lot on the company.

Whether or not to do your masters would be based on what you're getting your masters in.

Nothing like limiting yourself out of the gate. Here you are in a horse race, and you decide that you will not allow your gate to be opened because you do not like the color of the horse in the next stall, or the size of the track.

You may have passed your exams, but you failed to pass logic. This is a problem with a lot of youngsters. They think they are ENTITLED to work someplace. Interns seldom get the jobs that require a lot of knowledge. If you think you have what it takes, see what Nmap offers. I do not think you can hang.

people try. it won't work. one of the things you agree to when working there is a permanent keylogger at your desktop. though this may depend on department and jurisdiction. sales guys notoriously walk away from this, except on USB restrictions.

@op; don't do hp/microsoft/ibm... imagine what a cv with Jr. HP, Sr. MS and Dev Lead IBM looks like? a dead f**** dinosaur.
forget ever being picked up by the tesla's, uber's and linkedin's of tomorrow with those three on your CV -- in any combination.

personal advice. you won't go wrong with tesla or linkedin

The OP is far from someone that thinks he is entitled to anything as he has worked hard for much of what he has and has dome some serious out of the box thinking. I could share what he accomplished in revenue when he was just 15 or 16 but that is his private business.

He has scoped out the landscape as to what he thinks wold fit his personality and skill sets as well as what he sees as best for his future and, as opposed to him limiting himself, he has opened his mind to what he knows will be best for him.

And I'm sure he sought the counsel of others in that process.

You don't think he can hang?

I wish I could have hung as well as he can at his age.

Did you know that Fydor at Nmap is one of the worlds leading security experts? Did you know that every year he sponsors interns. Did you know that outside of interns, he has less than ten employees.

Let us look at others that you might be familiar that are less than 50 employees Sven at GSA Image recognition, neural networking... Whitehatbox (though currently viewed poorly on BHW) Neural networking, optic recognition.

We can go on, but I have just listed two that are working in some of the most valued research topics in CS today.

But because these people employ less than 50, the OP will rule them out. Jesus H. Christ, Google, Microsoft, FaceBook, Twitter, Baidu, and several others just open sourced their AI. These are all very large companies. When you dig into why they open sourced, you find out that they have determined that the their employees need help from the community at large.

So please, don't go into things you think you know something of when you know nothing of them.

    Hmmm that makes sense!!

But for me, my masters will be in Electronics and Communication Engineering ( Specializing in Signal Processing ). So yeah ECE and IM are 2 worlds apart :D

Here's an idea. BHW pick 5 of the most successful members to manage it. Start an internship. That would be fun.

No, I didn't know that, but didn't really care to know either, because I have no interest in security.

Greg wasn't arguing anything about the company you talked about, so I don't know why you'd bother to rant more about it. He specifically addressed the fact that you have no idea who I am, or my capabilities.

I don't want to work at a security firm. ZERO interest. I need to work in something B2B related, that would have an application when selling IM software. Other than that, Google and social networks would also peak my interest for 12 months.

Stop being so uptight. I'll intern where I want to intern... lol
