I'll be going to France with my family (4 person including me) in October and we'll be staying in Paris for 3 nights.

I'm looking for a relatively cheap (around 40 EUR/person/night, no need for catering), but good (nothing fancy, clean, belongings are safe) hotel possibly close to the city center and/or close to metro station.

I work in the tourist industry myself, so i'll ask around there as well, but i'm curious about the opinion of those who lives or stayed there.

I already read reviews on tripadvisor and such, but i think there's no need to explain on a blackhat forum how easily those reviews can be faked.

So what do you recommend by personal experience?

    Thanks!

P.S. Sorry, i'd have started this thread in the lounge!

I am from amsterdam, but I have visited paris a lot. what I like the most is a simple charming hotel in the center. there are a lot of simple ones in the center. breakfast you do somewhere on the street, and same for dinner. all you need is a simple place to sleep since you probably are sightseeing all day

@JohnnyRabbit: i've just found a fresh article about fake reviews on tripadvisor:
    Code:
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2032997/TripAdvisor-investigated-ASA-fake-reviews.html
which says: "As many as five million of the most current reviews on the website could be fake"

those fake reviews can be paid, you can buy them on DP, mturk, fiverr etc. or hotels can "buy" them from the guests directly offering them basically any worthy service, free meal, longer stay, better room etc. and fake negative reviews can come from the competition, so ignoring the too good ones and the worst ones also seems to be a good idea

@KlaAz0r: that's what i'm planning to do, i need a simple hotel in the center, but i'd also like to do a preliminary booking, hence i need the name of an exact hotel
or do you say there's no need for preliminary booking, just go there and book/pay on spot?

@skipper2: done, it's a bit pricy though, but the price includes breakfast
    have you been there?

I second the Etap Hotels. You can check in and check out 24/7, room is clean and basic. I do not know if thats the standard, but i always had a wifi connection at the hotels.

Just make sure the hotel is not in one of those suburbans, otherwise you will get robbed completely naked when walking the streets at night.

And dont get fooled by the black ones with their bh methods, haha.

Well Paris is a real romantic city to be in but then I saw a movie called "Taken" and I was forced to change my views. Then I thought there are good and bad guys all over the world so why bother.

I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

    Good Luck

    just a little follow up

we stayed in a small hotel called Bastille Hotel on Rue de la Roquette, (maybe the name is familiar for Parisians), close to the Bastille Opera, it wasn't the Hilton, but it was just ok for the price (30 EUR/person/night), we didn't stayed there too long, just for the necessary sleeping
on a side note: the accommodation is better than what you can read on tripadvisor and it has a great location close to a metro station, 24h reception
