Hi,

I'm in the process of opening up my first online business. It is in the auto-parts industry (Canada) and I was hoping to have an in-house affiliate program.
It's a very broad market and I would have over 50,000 products in my store. Sales would be anywhere from $50 to $2000, average order should be around $150.
I was thinking of starting off at a 5% affiliate rate (EX: 5% cash for you, 5% discount for customer).

This seems to be a competitive rate based on what I found on amazon and other competitors in the automotive industry.
Do you guys have any suggestions on:

1. Where to recruit affiliate marketers
2. If the rates are reasonable? If not, who provides better rates?

i would suggest creating a merchant account in popular affiliate networks, i think the benefits are obvious both in terms of reach, cost and potential. if you really want an in-house program, you will need a good advertising budget and targeting your competitors affiliates.

You can also try advertising where most of your customers hang out - auto blogs/forums and reach out to top contributors for marketing your website. For in-house affiliate program you can try Tapfiliate.

For commissions, check your competitors and try to match or provide slightly better commissions as you are just starting with your store.

If you have the budget, hire a affiliate manager/outreach specialist who can take care of this for you or for starters get a family member on board for this.

Also check out this thread for influencer outreach.

All the best :)
