Okay do not mean to ask a stupid question, but here goes! Where would I look to find out if a php script calls home? Is there a certain folder or name of the file I should look for or can it be anywhere in the code?

The easiest way to do it to install localhost on your home machine turn it on, upload your script and use some software like firewall to check if this script is trying to connect somewhere from your computer.

It can be anywhere in the code. I would install the script on a local machine with Fedora. The SElinux will tell for sure anything strange.
