Why did you start a software company OP?
Surely acquiring new clients was one of the first things you thought about?

OP, it is good to be ambitious but you need to walk before you can run. Get a few local clients first work and develop software for them then think about expanding.
You aren't really ready until you have answered your own questions. First step is to draw up a detailed business plan that will help you think about acquiring clients.
You also need to define your business, are you selling software, are you a developer, what markets are you looking to work in, who is your ideal client?

This + educate yourself, maybe check member download section for a course or something that could help you

The way you've structured your question, makes it incredibly obvious that you are the freshest of noobs. Educate yourself first, then sell.

Well, I am also a Computer Science student and I have a dev business so maybe I can help you a little (I know, I know, I should update my journey, I will, once I have a little more free time).

First at all, a dev business is not an easy way to make money. Be sure you love it before doing it because before you can hire other people you will have to work a lot. Be sure to don't sell your services too cheap, maybe you will be thinking sometimes on doing it because you need clients. Try to avoid it if you are not really sure you won't have problems doing it. Selling for a lower price if it is a lot of work will make your client think you are a scammer (if everyone else is offering that for $$$$, why are you offering the same for just $$?).

Be sure to have a portfolio. Almost everyone (if not everyone) will ask for it, if you don't have one it is 99.999% sure you will be rejected.

And the most tricky question: how to get clients? Well, do perfect works and you will have returning clients and recommendations. As others have said, try local businesses. I would say to try cold emails but you will have to learn to do it, because it is really really difficult (in my opinion).

There are 2 ways to make money as a software developer.

    1. Build software for clients - don't know too much about this area but you should start with google alerts. Set it up to get emails every time someone posts something related about this on the internet. Set alerts for "looking for a software developer" or "want a software developer" or just "software developer". Also, you could start on freelancing websites like fiverr, peopleperhour or freelancer.

    2. If you have some buget and a small team you can build your own softwares then take monthly payments. Research what market needs to reach its goals, pick a niche (seo, social media tools or other markets and build a better software than what we have) create the software then promote it tomake good money.

    Have a good day!
