I've been #1 for a keyword with 40K local monthly search for 2 months now. I'm averaging ~90 visits a day. (PPC data shows ~1200 impressions a day)

I've also been #3 for the singular version of the same keyword that supposedly gets 14K local monthly search. I'm getting ~50 visits a day. (PPC data shows ~1000 impressions a day)

The title tag is an exact match. Description attempts to sell the click like this "All types of lamps on sale! Discover lava lamps, tall lamps, and short lamps all 50% off."
    ----
This week I got a keyword with 22K exact local search to rank #3 and is getting around ~30 visits a day. This is a one word keyword too.

The Title tag is 'Keyword for sale'.
    ----

I'm targeting furniture keywords like: desks, office desks, couch, lamps, tables

Anyone know what's going on? Why aren't people clicking thru? Have you guys experienced something similar?

You can grab more attention with modifying the meta description to something like ****Lava Lamps for sale - Look here to find out more****

40 K local searches? What tool are you using to get this data? Are you certain that that info is accurate?

I've got the same problem, #2 for 33K exact monthly search, and only 140 visits/day

Maybe try modifying the description? See what the top 5 have as description tag? Seems strange you would get such low click through though...

it's your meta description. Try running a small PPC campaign and seeing which descriptions gets the best CTR. Then edit your organic page meta description to match your winning PPC description.

what does the description have to do with anything though....really? If hes #1, hes #1, the description is more just an added bonus. The fact of the matter is his data is innacurate, and the keyword he thought was 40k a month, is more like 4000 a month in reality. Thats the bottom line folks, no big thinking about it.

Maybe. He said he check it on google keyword tool though. Thought that was reasonably accurate?

Could have to do with how rank is being checked maybe?

I don't know how much description can effect click through?

Might be worth running ppc as suggested - this would confirm what description works..

People click on the paid adds. When there are 3 paid adds on top you get like 30-40% of traffic being number 1 in my experience. For online stores the number is even far less than that, in addition to the paid adds, the google shopping results & local results pretty much kill all the traffic. This is why I target at least 40 high search keywords per site to get some decent traffic. It's getting brutal.
