Let's say I create a landing page that has an enticing sales pitch for an eBook that I'm trying to sell for $5. Obviously I can use SEO to gain organic traffic and after a couple of months rank for keywords and start making organic sales. However, before that what are some ways to effectively get the word out about my landing page and make some early sales? I've heard commenting on Facebook can be pretty successful, same with posting on forums. What're some other methods?

Ok it might not help you, but it might help to understand basic things of IM.

Trying to create a product and then finding the customers should not be the way to go, unless you have an innovative and revolutionary product that sell by itself.

Instead, you need to find a source of traffic, of customers, and try to bring a product that they demand.

--> Filling an existing need is easier than creating a new need.

    Hello,

Twitter too. If well done, you can target followers in your niche.

Or, another way I saw somewhere. Let's say you wrote an ebook about dog food. You search blog about dogs which have traffic. Then, you contact the owners of the blogs. You can tell them this :
    - or you send them freely the ebook, explaining you are a reader of their great blog, you love them, ..., and that you would like to have their opinion (and if they could give their opinion to the other readers too ...)
    - or you go the money way: you pay them to make a review of your ebook on their blogs

You can do the same with facebook groups: you contact the owner of the group, and you send him freely the ebook for a review. It could work better.

Twitter is a good market for eBooks. You can find a lot of people who are searching for an answer to a question that Google can solve. You can easily find a topic that's been trending well over the last 12 months on Twitter, write out an eBook, and market it.

I see, how would I start with twitter? Make a profile and start following people related to my niche?

The ebook would be on the dating niche, was thinking that the source of traffic can be SEO in the longterm once the website ranks, but short term not sure what type of traffic I could use, I'm sure there will always be male customers interested in dating

There's book directories, Social Media, Video sharing sites as well as download directories.

That should get you going with all the promotion, it's really just get your product creation down to a science so you can have a specific audience to pocket off.
