When you have an email list how often do you send affiliate offers? How about helpful emails with no offers?

I mix it up. I email my lust on average 5 times a week. I always include a clickable link to help my subscribers get into the habit of clicking them! I send 2/3 promotional emails with affiliate products in and explain how they can benefit from using. I also send 2/3 emails which contain pure value and link to my blog posts, or invite to connect with me on social media.

Research suggest that self promotion or other kinds of promotional materials online are not valued highly by the customers.

You better create a schedule where you specify days and times when you send emails out. Try different times at first and see which ones have higher open rate and click through rates, stick with those. Also send email on weekends, they have higher open rates than those sent out during the week. So on weekend always include your affiliate links spiced up by some valuable content.

I suggest you try sending emails every other day, with 50/50 or 60/40 rate informative/affiliate emails. And don't use word ‘newsletter' in the email topic, they have lower open rates. Read through other email tactics online. Hubspot have good research on email marketing, while zapier.com, 99U and others share some good insights into email writing techniques.

Thank you for your answers! What are your average open rates on any day and same with opt in rates? I know there is no set answer and these can vary greatly but just your personal experience

It really varies with the list. Some do it every day. If people subscribed to your list specifically to get notified about offers (think GroupOn) then they WANT to see those e-mails.
