I have a warez forum that gets a few hundred views a day. I went ahead and put a content locker on it. Few bucks a day, now my question is, leave it up, or take it down and not annoy my users, possibly having those users suggest the site to their friends and have my site grow bigger?

If it is actually a loyal userbase I would consider letting it grow first. Just look at scriptmafia, they put a content locker on the whole site (which is obviously easily bypassed by adblock plus or what-have-you) but only after they had a real following. If they are just one time organic traffic visitors finding your site through google searches, and none of them were converting into actual repeat users... fuck 'em and just lock the content. It is hard to say without knowing the exact situation.

    Think in these terms...FACEBOOK

They did not START advertising and being open to the public. It started as just COLLEGE STUDENTS 5 years ago, then grew to a social network for average computer users, then a HUB for anyone to keep in touch.

    THEN THEY CASHED IN!

So keep it free. It's like bangin a chick with no rubber, you hold out as long as you can, and then you can have that "money shot" :p

    Just my opinion

I agree on not monetizing until you grow a loyal fan base but your second analogy wasn't exactly necessary.

    Banging a chick...wait whaa???

Lol I didn't hold out on that either... but yeah I'm gonna take it off since my warez forum is really getting somewhere. I would just advertise it with traditional banners for the lifetime of the site but it doesn't make shit. Too bad I can't use adsense.
