I remember talking to a friend of mine, he suggested I should always buy a .com and NEVER a .info which makes me ask for second thoughts. Are .info's THAT bad? And isn't there any good situation where it would be better to have .info instead of .com? like for example I have a website about pizza, offering information on pizza, isn't it better to have aboutpizza.info instead of .com?

Agreed. To me a .info is a last resort and you really want to hit that keyword.

As stated above, go for the top 3 extensions, unless you're trying to target a country specifically. For example, if targeting the UK, i'd go for a .co.uk or org.uk extension, as I've found them much easier to gain a successful rank with. If they're taken, then opt for the .info. Personally, I've had no issue in ranking them.

Yeah, users are a little negative about .biz and .info
maybe because most of them are spammy sites...

I don't think there is any situation where I would choose a .info over a .com if the .com were available.

That said your friend was misguided. The .info is a fine extension and there is no reason to avoid them.

.com makes it easier for your visitor to remember your website. I honestly, off the top of my head don't remember any .info website that I visit regularly..

Thank you for all the information! I get it now, will only use info if there's no possibility of having a .com! Thanks

.info s are very hard to rank and keep them there. I tried once just to see. Picked low keyword but still can't keep them at the top. I would suggest don't try as its already tried.

even i find .info to rank may be my seo strategy was not good, Those who have ranked the info and kept there could throw light on seo on info

i dont think .info is bad but i prefer .com
I suggest getting the .info and trying it out your self, you only loose a couple of dollars if it fails.

A .com is believed to be better then a .info, but there is also another thing called "domain age" that plays an important role. I suggest you do some research on TrustRank and you should find out that a domain name that has been online for 3+ years (without having a landing page on it) will get ranked better.

I tend to use .info primarily for sites I plan on directing only social traffic to, like pinterest for ex.
But theres nothin' wrong with .info's at all, as stated above..
