Hello Community,

I'm wondering when it makes really sense to buy an expired domain for a 301 redirect which link I found on a strong website.

Example (I'm using ahrefs for checking):
- The 'main' site has a DR of 89 and DA of 67. I found a link of an expired domain on it.
- The expired domain has just a DR of 1.9 (~200 backlinks from ~20 different sites).
- All sites are fitness related (main site, expired site, 301 target site).

Does it make really sense to buy such domains?

Thanks for your help!

I have seen this method working with my own eyes. A guy did the same and was outranking me in the same niche. Unfortunately, this didn't affect my rankings. So, it may or may not work as ranking still needs a lot of factors.

But did he bought expired domains with high DR/DA or expired with low DR but with a very strong backlink?

DR/DA are just numbers. What makes an expired domain a powerful one is how its backlinks are. That domain had a single backlink from a major authority website.

Relevant domains can be redirected at any time.

But best do it between Core updates.

Nope. Right now we are in the middle of an update for example.
But why do you say wait for redirect between core upates? To have something in case you rank lower?

Because it's hard to measure results inside Core update.

Let's say you apply the redirect and rankings go down. You will assume it was because of the redirect. While in fact it might not have anything to do with it and was caused by the Core update. You cannot tell.

Also, whatever you do inside Core update might get ignored completely. You will need to wait until the next one to see the effects if they come at all.

I prefer to wait until it finishes rolling out and then do any changes.
