Hey guys,

I am planning to launch a website with social accounts. I had a discussion with my partner about what type of email should we use. Personally I thought it would be a good idea to have a gmail account for the business and another email account as back up (such as yahoo or outlook) and leave the professional @mysite emails for business functions. My partner thinks it is a good diea to use the @mysite emails for the social media accounts.

What do you guys think

There was a discussion about this a few months ago (on social spam). Facebook/Twitter hold a higher value in .edu emails and much less on yahoo and hotmail. Gmail is somewhere in the middle, and I assume if you sign up with a custom domain email, it'll be classified higher as well.

Thank you for your responses guys,

Since we are aiming to build an authoirty site we have decided on using the @mysite email address as it seems that they are valued a bit higher than the standard gmail or other email addresses.

I usually use gmail but at times i even create an email id on the domain which i am promoting

Hi OP,

I reckon you create your own e-mail to and link to hotmail or yahoo. It is much safer and quite professional for your own e-mail name!

Warmest Regards,
Commoner

I've created separate accounts for various needs within my business. For example, when registering my business with social media accounts I'll use "social" as the name, just as you'd use "contact" when users submit a contact form on your website. I think it would be more professional if you used your own business email address, but at the same time your followers may not always see your email.

When you setup social accounts most times a custom domain email or gmail is the best to use good luck.

Wow this is getting more responses than I expected.

For anybody who searches for thsi thread it seems gmail is a very good common email, which makes sense since google wants you to use their products. I have found in trying to set up some social accounts you have to use specific accounts eg. yahoo answers must have a yahoo email, google + etc.

As a newbie I will be using my @myaddress where ever I can but failing that I have set it up that the other social accounts are the primary recovery accounts. But, and this is the part I must stress, I have created a gmail account which I am not using on any social account at all as the secondary recovery email address. In short that is my security, even if the other accounts are compromised at any point I will always have that to fall on.

Plus I have all of the emails being forwarded from those social email accounts to my secondary email account. If you want help wiht this I strongly recommend getting something like lastpass plugin and using it.

email is so 1990. I really don't understand why social services still ask for that.
