ive noticed that everytime a youtube vlogger's account gets popular they always end up uploading a "goodbye" video stating that they will no longer be uploading videos to the old channel and that everyone should subscribe to their new channel and that all videos will now be uploaded only to the new channel

an example of this is this guy (i cant post links but just look up "thejimmyta trochannel" on youtube with no spaces

i ve seen this so many times is there a strategic reason for this? i know that its very common for popular youtubers to branch off their channels into different niches one for personal vlogs, one for short films, one for funny stuff, one for tutorial stuff etc. .etc. but why abandon a channel content completely like the user above has done?

Shitty channel name? A good and memorable channel name can be detrimental to your success.

Another thing people do is that they threaten to quit to get people to beg them to stay. They then decide to stay because of the out pour of support. They do this in hopes that the % of subscribers who actually watch their videos increase.

It's emotional attachment they are looking for. If enough people are there begging for them to stay, then they can make money from 2 channels instead of 1. Simple really, its like the Zeigarnik Effect, but on a different scale. The thought of watching someone a long time and then being cut off without any completion is going to create more views on their videos and higher emotional attachment from their audience in the long run.

His new channel http://www.youtube.com/user/LifeAccordingToJimmy is partnered and has 100k more subscribers. I'd say that his original account probably had copyright strikes or community guideline strikes that prevented him from ever become a partner.

    Never you mind.
It could also be that now hes established he wants a clean slate with no enhanced botted views. Who knows, maybe he used them and now wants to see what he can do on his own?

For me personally I would change it because I hate my channel name. I have no idea why Youtube dont let you change things like that or your age when you first sign up. I made a mistake with my first account age-wise and I made a major spelling mistake in my new channel. >.<

this is the only answer that makes sense.

the other guesses would make sense if he was still uploading content to that other channel but he isnt.

all his videos are original though and if anything his newer content is racier and would probably have more strikes than his old content

hmmm any other guesses? (good one adam)
