What's your vision on the future of Facebook?

Will it get bigger or will another social media platform will take over?

And what will this mean for the millions of businesses depending on facebook?

    let the discussion begin :)

Facebook owns to much data for it to go down or let another platform take over. Some people have their entire lives on facebook.

That with the fact that facebook has some of the most effective advertising options and targetting. I doubt it will be going anywhere soon.

Even with cloaking, its the same game - Facebook will change their algo or their rules to stop misleading ads - Black hat affiliates will find ways around it ( rinse and repeat)

Will always be like this, there is a reason why so many ppl want to advertise on facebook - their traffic converts. Just look at their Q4 earnings- 99% of it comes from advertising, with the rise of mobile this is just bound to increase. As a matter fact facebook is actually facing a problem where they actually dont have enough ad space to supply the demand. That's right, facebook with its 1.7 billion users is actually running out of ad space. They cannot have a news feed that is 100% ads, so they have a limit of how many ads can be shown, this is a problem if they want to keep growing in the trend they are now. But its safe to say these guys are giants and they are not going anywhere,

Do you remember Yahoo ? Everydody said at this time that was the biggest thing and will stay forever. Now it's nothing anymore !

I read an article (not in english sorry) about the future of Facebook that said "Facebook the future Yahoo"... and I'm quite sure that will end probably like this.

Why Apple has never done social network ? Why Google "just" tried to do a social network and let it go ? Because Apple provides PRODUCTS (the most profitable), Google provides SERVICES (a search engine that WE NEED)... and Facebook provides.... nothing :)

This is the community of FACEBOOK that provides "just" entertainment (not Facebook) that users used TO LOOSE THEIR TIME WHEN THEY ARE BORED !

That was the same with Yahoo, when it becames a PORTAL (we spent time, read stupid articles).

So the next step of Facebook it's to become a PORTAL and then... it will be nothing, but before they will be redeemed by a big company in more profitable market than Facebook. Users they have rights on their own content and their personal informations, so they will delete their content or the website will do it (Have you seen what's happen with Vine?... all gone in few days! just crazy)

So use Facebook as you can to extract clients... before it blow up, and it will be a good thing for the world, because Facebook is nothing but a useless place.

ps : this is my own opinions guys :D

Facebook is like that coyote when he runs off the cliff.

He doesn't fall until he looks down and sees there's nothing under him.

Facebook has nothing to offer imo....for us, it's spam land. For users it's a waste of time and 100% gossip.....it's the industrialization of gossip. Showing off your girlfrield, your car, your food, posting fake emotional crap about something you don't give a fuck about....

There'll be a collective time when everyone looks down on Facebook and see how depressive it is being there and then they'll leave.

I don't think fb is going anywhere, at least for awhile, but marketing will continue to get harder and more expensive.

Nothing lasts forever, Facebook just became bigger than most, BUT it's not just gonna die off as Myspace. When it saw IG as a threat it bought it , so I'm sure it'll just keep expanding but I know for sure more big social media sites will pop up.

I think Zuckerberg knows how to spy and track rising websites. When someone starts attracting tons of traffic, Zuckerberg already knows what's happening.

Zuckerberg is not the visionary person as people think (don't forget he stole the concept).... Facebook is a social network for 12 years ! We are waiting for the next step.... The only thing he can do it's to buy the different competitors to stay alive. But more en more companies won't accept that ex : Snapchat that grow faster than Facebook now. And when Facebook is trying to do the same thing... it's not working lol

Zuckerberg doesn't need to be visionary, he has social widgets, like buttons all across the web and of course he has facebook graph. So he knows exactly what's happening right now, what websites are on the rise. When his system detects a new trend, he can buy or steal a new technology. So his model seems stable for me. Let's see how it will work for him, working fine atm.

Facebook is by far the most popular social channel of the past decade. Its outlasted many competitors and continues to grow.

When it comes to the future of the platform it is obvious that big business can be found in marketing. I believe there will be a greater focus on unique advertising by brands and the platform will try to improve business pages.

Currently adverts can be lost amongst the numerous posts, so a more forceful approach to advertising may be taken.

Yes exactly, however the cost will only increase if the traffic continues to convert. In essence, the more people bidding will artificially drive the prices up, however if their traffic goes to shit, people will stop bidding and prices will drop. Pretty much if their traffic stops converting, advertisers will stop buying and prices will drop.

Similar to any other bidding platform, except the scale of Facebook is MEGA.

I think Facebook will remain as it is with adding more feature and very soon they will change it to social shopping portal. As of now they have started ads, buy sell groups and they have also started showing recommended buy sell group activities to users.
Since they have huge user base (more than any other sites in the world) they may start their own e-commerce site like Amazon or tieup with big players like amazon

According to largest social media site, with well over a billion users, Facebook is still the top dog when it comes to social media. While every business can benefit from having a strong presence, the true value comes in understanding what people are talking about and sharing with their networks. so they have huge user in future.

For next few years i think there is not much danger to facebook but surely sometime soon they will be replaced when there is some shift and facebook won't even know when it lose its ground.

Any business can't completely depend on 1 source. It really depends on the business type, for example a fashion related business can perform well on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest etc.

As, Facebook is growing along-with their user-base, IMO it will remain dominating, as teens are quite active on this platform for tagging unwanted pics and other fun stuff :D.

Also, there are tons of social media platforms that have yet to create any sort of open bidding system to run ads. For example - snapchat does not have a self serve platform and there is tons of people on snap chat. This could be implemented by allowing advertisers to bid on sponsored stories at the top. Right now it seems its only available to top big
brands and not as a self serve.

Instagram is still very young in terms of advertising. Yes guys are making good money on IG but Instagram itself is not doing much besides allowing facebook ads to run on their platform (owned by facebook so makes sense) But i believe there is a lot of different ways that instagram can increase their ad revenue by trying different styles and formats of ads.

It's clear that mobile ads are doing damage so I think that's where everything is headed. Yes mobile is a bit harder to convert than classic desktop, but clicks are usually cheaper and CTR is higher from my experience.
