I grew up on horror movies. My dad used to let me watch a lot of them, like Child's Play, Nightmare on Elm Street, That Thing You Do. I find that there's a stark contrast between horror movies from my era and horror movies now. I still like mine to be a bit classy (like a My Buddy doll with the spirit of a serial killer running around is classy).

I think I stopped watching horror movies after The Hills Have Eyes. I was over someone's house getting my hair braided. She had it on the TV and her kid, who was like 6, was curled up in my lap crying because she said it was scary and she was going to have nightmares that night. It just kind of ruined everything for me.

But I have seen quite a few of them, like Jeepers Creepers, Scream, Zena: Warrior Princess.

Anyway, my all time favorite horror movie is probably Scream. I loved that entire series. I have a thing for Wes Craven films though. I loved Last House on the Left. I also like Halloween. Does Alien count as a horror film?

    What's your favorite horror movie?

Does Broke Back Mountain count as a horror film? If not then IT, then probably Insidious 1 and 2, 3 let the other two down.

Alien is definitely Sci - Fi! As for the Hills Have Eyes, the original disturbed me. The remake I refuse to finish. Some things are just better left out of sight and if you have seen it you know exactly where I am headed. As a certain point it's no longer a fear game, it is simply grotesque.

I think I'd put High Tension up at the top of my list. That movie was straight twisted and I was so disoriented by it. Blew my mind at the end. I've grown to be more fond of suspense and thrillers. Really enjoyed Sinister and Insidious most recently. Even the low budget Unfriended was a good ride for the $1.50 on Redbox!

But let's be honest here; I regularly watch 22 Jump Street for the Trip Scene. Ass n Titties all day!

I really like those horror films you can never remember the name of........there's a few really good ones.

Child's play, Nightmare on Elm street i found funny more than scary. IT was probably the only film that freaked me out when i was a kid.

A recent film i watched 'Hidden' was quite good.

A few more i liked, not scary to me but a decent watch.

    Maggie

    Poltergeist

    The Gallows

    Sinister 2

Omg The Evil Dead! I totally forgot about that one! Thanks for reminding me Wilson.

Yes micky, Brokeback Mountain counts. If it scared you we will definitely classify it as a horror film.

I think Nightmare on Elm Street and Child's Play were supposed to be funny. I laughed at them when I was a kid. I still laugh at them now. They fall under horror/comedy I think. Like Scream. I don't care what anyone says. Scream was freaking hilarious.

    Lmao the Teletubbies.

I totally agree Digitalist. I think The Hills Have Eyes was way outside of "Let's scare the crap out of people." Any time you have a rape scene in a horror film, it's not horror anymore. It's just gratuitous violence.

I got a kick out of 13 Ghosts for years. Sometimes I'll still watch it when it comes on AMC.

Nobody said Poltergeist. That crap scared the heck out of me when I was a kid. And It is the reason my sister and brother have a clown phobia.

    Let the right one in.

    Let me in.

And my personal favorite when I was younger was House on Haunted Hill remake. Scared me as a kid.

Those three are 'great' in my book. Let me in and let the right one in were gripping as an adult and house on haunted hill has a special place in my heart.

Halloween was always fun to me. Even the re - boot. Friday the 13 never did much for me, neither did Elm Street.

    Hellraiser was decent.

I am the kind of person who doesn't like 'older' movies. I like modern everything, so even movies I love made over ten years ago are almost not watchable.

I had to be drugged (jk.. lol) and dragged to the horror movie... I watched the side walls and even then with half eyes closed and kept everything out of focus. I wouldn't sleep with any window open for weeks after a horror movie. Alone in the elevator (lift), I would die if the lift got stopped and w/o lights. The best horror movie... don't even ask me. :D
