Lot of contradictory information. I'm personally testing whether social signals do something or not. There are people who say social signals can help you to rank and some who say that social signals have no effect on rankings.

There was that case study here: www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/social-networking-sites/739541-case-study-can-i-rank-100k-social-signals.html

Interesting information but it appears that the person cleverly did the case study to promote his own services.

I don't have enough data to say that signals play a impact on rankings or not. Based on what I've read there is a role. It is uncertain to how big of a role it plays thouhg.

Now, my question is this: Has social signals helped you rank?

And, it is preferred that people who have actually experimented with social signals comment.

    Thanks.

    From my limited testing:

    - Most Social Signals do nothing
    - Some help a little (Real Google +'s)
    - People who suggest them normally have a hand in the game OR have not tested

I see social signals as 'justification' for my links. On pages which I want to appear 'viral' I add some social signals. But I have seen no real ranking increase from social signals alone.

Getting quality social shares is ideal, but being shared widely on social networks is still helpful.Google Plus impacts rankings more than Twitter and Facebook.

I've used them a few times for a few YouTube videos, but I don't think they helped much.

I use them purely to mask my linking footprint and to try to look natural. They do VERY little on their own IF anything. Worse yet most are of a poor quality you can buy. Accounts that do NOTHING but psam backlinks in posts 24/7 by the dozen. This is pure shit, frankly. They aren't even attempting to look natural.

I always get about 2k-4k social signals to my pages im trying to rank just because :)

I dont know if they help or what but its only a few bucks if you know where to look and it doesn't hurt so I dont see why not.

I do not think it would help that much with ranking part of keywords but yes,it gets good amount of traffic to websites if it runs wisely.

I rank tons of videos with social signals on YT considering they use engagement as a major factor it only makes sense that it should work.... and it does for me. The viral effect.
