Maybe I'm missing something. Every now and then, a newbie will come along and ask something like: "what SEO services should I buy so I can be number 1 in Google? My budget is $xx"

I understand we all want to be SEO wizards and have the satisfaction of ranking our own site in Google. But why not use Adwords or some other PPC service? If you have a budget for such things, it seems like the most foolproof way of ranking to me.

PS: I don't work for Google, or endorse their practices in any way :p I'm just curious here.

Adwords is not easy for everyone to master. It just might be cheaper to learn SEO in order to get
their site to the first page of google, whether then pay for every single click.

Imagine learning SEO well enough to get the site to the top 10 for a good keyword and keeping it
there. That saves them lots of money compared to adword's ppc.

I can tell you why.On top adwords position you will get like 0-5% clicks .Using seo and getting on top 4 will get you 20-75% of clicks.

See a diffrence ?Its extremly important when traffic of that particular niche is limited

adwords can make you money yes. I use it myself but over time you spend more and more on adwords to stay competitive. I currently spend between $100-$300 a month to supplement my small business. There was a time that was $50 a month. The funny thing about adwords I have noticed is most of the customers it brings in are hard to keep. The next time they need your service they conduct the same search and use whoever is at the top again. My phone number is (area code) 777-7777 people don't remember it. The computers think for the people these days.

When I first started to launch my sites, I jumped into Adsense and Adwords straight away...

...I was banned from both in 3 Months.

I presume many of the noobs have run into the same thing, then realise they need to do something to get traffic, so they figure they need a SEO service.

Even then, some people think just putting a site up and waiting for Google, is all there is to it.
Then 6 months down the line when they haven't earnt anything they start trying to work out why things aren't working.

This makes sense to me, saving money in the long run.

@W130SN, what you said about getting banned, something clicked in my head. This is BLACKHAT world. The reason I see a few of these threads every now and then is because these newbies must have also been banned at one point. There's your problem :p

More people click on organic results than Adwords results, that's why. Your website/business will do better at a top 3 spot of organic rankings than it will if you keep your adwords ad at the top. Sometimes the cost of SEO can be more than PPC, but the outcome is better ROI.
