    hi,

i had someone contact me and try to pitch their services to me by saying my website ip is being shared by other sites and this is a factor in SEO. can someone plase confirm this? I mean the sites on there are not even linking to each other. i mean its understandable if they were in a linkwheel but they arent.

So whats your take on it ?

    thanks

Google can't penalize sites that are on the same IP, because then most sites in the world would be penalized, not everyone can afford to host a website on a a single IP.

The only thing is if you are creating a linkwheel then you want backlinks from separate IPs.

The guy clearly wants to charge you $2000/month for SEO work.

Well yeah, obviously your IP is shared unless you are paying for your own IP address. I have my own server though so half my site (I only have about 6) are on one IP and the rest are on my second IP, your probably sharing your IP with 50 - 300 sites if you have shared hosting.

A Major part of domain names (say 80-90%, maybe more) use shared IP address. Google won't penalize your site if any bad site share same IP with your website. But if you are going to use a fresh dedicated IP for your sites then it is advised to spread domains on many IP addresses as they can act as a very strong footprint.
If you are just talking about a site hosted on a shared server then don't worry.
