    this page was made to rank for "doctors in whatever city", one month on and it starts to climb, 2 months inside the campaign gets to page 4, and a few weeks later to page 2, but the link building was using too heavily the KW for which they were trying to rank, i.e: "doctors in x city". Eventually, the page dropped and disappeared from SERPS without ever reaching the first page. how do I recover this page?

    I didnt do the SEO, but I do have access to all the link sources (not spammy BTW, they're decent links), or most anyway. Would change the anchor text of those links be enough to recover the page? coz Ive only had to deal twice with overoptimized anchor links and I wasnt able to recover those pages.

    I'm not sure which should be the steps to recover a page, and if in fact it can be recovered or should I make another page? should I delete the overoptimized links altogether?

    new territory for me, thanks in advance for any help

    first, wait a few weeks.
    then, set all the offpage anchors to url/brand.
    wait 3 weeks again.
    then graduall set phrases as anchors one per week.

    dam, thats slow, aint?

    in the mean,time, I build my YT imperium.

    If its due to anchors then just change them over time. However, sometimes its not just the anchors which is why most fail to recover.

    First, you are super-fortunate to have access to the offpage links...I have a client who came to me with years of 'kw 1' 'kw 2' 'kw 3' anchors and virtually no brand/url anchors. His is a national site and a well-known name in the industry, but they'd gone crazy with Scrapebox, AMD, etc back in the day, got penalized, and were just recently ready to start ranking again (they'd had to switch to PPC to keep deals flowing). It has been a TON of work, disavowing, building PBNs, doing editorial and guest posts, but his big kw just recently cracked the first page.

    I wouldn't change everything if I were you. Find the top sites linking to you, and change those first, but don't just do DrsinABC.com or whatever the site title is for the anchors...also use town name, surgeon/physician/etc, naked links, img links, etc. And, if you haven't already, have a look at the kw density of your site's page(s) themselves...adding some additional content about the city is a good way to dilute the kw a bit whilst also providing relevant info around the topic.

    well, lowering density, even removing KW complete from target page might hae solved that without any new links..

    I would NEVER change anything related to off-page seo. As long as its not a manual penaltt, build links with general anchors to dilute the density

    And change the kw density in the article will GREATLY help.

    --> What this guys says

    Everything comes down to looking natural in the eyes of the big G. Having all (or a lot) your anchors changed is most denitely not natural at all! That must be a big red flag for our G-friends.
    Lower kw density on your page (don't forget the LSI's) and build extra links to dilute anchor ratio (branded or general).
