What's the point of adding my adult site to a directory?

I've been approached to add my site to a porn directory. Is there any benefit or harm to doing so? I'm very surprised by how many monthly visits the directory gets. I didn't think people used porn directories...

It is a good backlink to have if the directory has a good DR, DA and RD.
it will help with organic traffic + direct traffic as you are listed there and people will visit your website if they are into your niche
 
Directories are a very low-key linking strategy. Will not harm but will not benefit much. Check referral sources in a while to see if the directory actually drives any visits at all to your site.

So, I've worked in this industry for a while and usually they want a link swapping situation. They are most likely asking because their directory doesn't have a lot of sites listed. They probably want you to put their directory site on your porn site. So, they would be benefiting from your site more than you would be benefiting with their site.

I've dealt with directories like ThePornDude and others before.

They don't do outreach. People come to them to ask to be listed. Those have visitor requirements and usually cost money.

Your choice. Just make sure that the directory is decent enough.
 
In the adult niche If you are talking about the top porn list directories, yes they play a major role in your rankings.
 
if the site has good traffic and you could get some from that, then its targeted traffic which can help for sales.
so even if it doesnt help much with ranking, it could surely help.
 
People do use porn directories. Top directories rank for some big related keywords just check them out. Links from those sites do help but they often come with requirements. So you need to figure out whether the link is worth it because the owners of these sites tend to make deals more favorable to them. Especially if you are new.
 
adult directories so remind me of the early 2000's :D, but yea they are still around and can drive traffic

I would say that depends on the keyword and on the directory site itself.
I believe if such action is free of charge or not really expensive that is worth to add site.
 
I think you get backlinks and also might get some traffic, if it's free, then why not.

Yeah of course, as an example, I have a website listed on theporndude and a couple other directories and they bring me a couple millions of ref traffic every month.
 
Having the website added in the popular directory can give much benefit like good link juice, high DA PA, much traffic and rankings improvement also.

But if it is not popular and don't have any good metrics, then there is no benefit of adding the website in that directory.
