    Hi,
Sorry if it sounds silly and im missing something here?
But i see all the time ''selling twitter followers'' etc.. all fake.. so other then the ''look'' of lots of people on your account following you. is there actually any bonus at all?
Iv always thought it was for the look of it.. But saw a post saying someone had almost a million fake twitter followers... just seems a bit extreme for well.. f all?!

My take on this is that nobody wants to follow someone that has 3 followers. You look like an authority if you have thousands of followers, so the genuine people that you are targeting to follow you will be more apt to follow you. Hope this makes sense.

There's really no 'bonus' other than that from my knowledge. Purely psychological

This is total speculation, but it seems like accounts with a higher follower to followed ratio are perceived as having more authority as well. I have absolutely nothing to back that up though.

Twitter is saturated with people trying to feel like a celebrity by way of the "Follow me back, yo!" method. It's disheartening and honestly there's no point to it. By having a bunch of followers on Twitter, (for some) it represents being an authority figure with widespread influence.

As others have mentioned, I think it's solely for social proof. If you have a lot of "followers", some people are bound to think you're popular and therefore worth following.

I read an article that twitter has specialized ranking system .accounts with more followers are pushed up the rating because it is supposed to show people who are more interesting to follow.

The only bonus is the more followers you have, you will get a "TOP Tweet" = more interest in your tweets
