    Preferably one that:

    - Doesn't randomly replace your publisher ID with the author's (which is a violation of Adsense's TOS)
    - Lets you choose where in the post to put the ads

    Why adsense plugin when you have a Text widget? Why use so much plugins at all?? It makes your site a lot more heavier coz all of them loads in every page (weather activated or not)..

    Was just about to say exactly the same thing.

    Just use a text widget for sidebar/footer areas and if you want it in the post, just modify the theme yourself to include your own adsense.

    For the amount of work you'd need to do and have 100% piece of mind that your Publisher ID cannot be changed by a plugin.... I can't see any reason not to do it manually.

    As mentioned above I have better luck with the text widgets than using some of the plugins available.

    Text widget is great for sidebar ads. And I hard code banner ads.

    But when I want the ads to appear in the post, that's what I want the plugin for.

    Hmm that seems to be a good reason. I would personally make a custom function for myself and add filter to the the_content function inside wordpress, but if you can't, then try this : http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ad-injection/

    EDIT: Your pseudocode should be

    1. Filter out the_content()
    2. Get value from your database (settings per post. Where to place and what to place).
    3. Call get_the_content and store the value inside a variable called $blabla.
    4. Look into $blabla and find where to post.
    5. Place the ad there.
    6. Return the modified string.

    Does it sound alien? Then hire a coder :)
