I am wondering if some tablets & mini netbooks do the same thing as laptop computers. Are they just another name for a computer? I see one in a catalog that has 8gb storage. I think that might be more than my macbook!
Can you open mini browsers, download,&, do they function for everyday business like laptop mac & pc?

I only really use my tablet for checking up on things when I am out and about, would not do work off it. Best off with a laptop to do actual work.

Usually it's the operating system that is the biggest difference: Windows 8 or MacOS (or whatever) for laptops today, Android for the Android tablets. Also the interface, which is mouse & keyboard vs. touchscreen.

I think you're getting confused between storage and memory.

The tablets have less RAM than laptops. Also, it's much more convenient to have a laptop with a Terabyte of storage space, an HD graphics card, and all the software you need to work on stored on a laptop. I use my tablet to check stuff when I am out.

Yeah ram and memory is the same and is used to temporary save data. The storage is where the Pc saves your data even when the Pc is switched off or the data is not executed. Like stated above the operating system is the main difference. You wont be able to use any kind of software on your android tablet unless its an actual app that has been developed for it. On your laptop you will be able to run most of the software that you are used to.

the biggest difference is the portability and the open source operating system. The thing that makes android unique then your pc or MAC is that, android can come always handy with thousands alternatives. Furthermore, a mobile operating system is designed such a way, that they can survive longer than windows/MAC . Why? ok, take a real life example: Your pc or MAC needs to shut down or restart after a certain time, but a mobile operating system, like android is designed in such a way, that people can work with it, even without a restart for a month or long. I don't know, whether I could make you understand or not. But, the conclusion is, your android device(phone/tablet) can do almost everything that you can do with your pc/MAC (in some cases it does more than those.Ex: phone call, instant net, notification on the go, powerful camera and many many more).
Yes, you can operate all those application you mentioned, effortlessly. May be you find some performance glitch due to inefficient memory or RAM but there are thousands alternatives of those application, as I mentioned before.

    Hope that helps

Another thing is the OS. Windows vs Android. Windows is superlative for obvious reasons.
